Job Description

A Copy Editor is needed for the Credit Editorial, Publishing, and Media Relations team in Chicago. The role involves editing and producing financial services research reports and other documents, ensuring accuracy, high quality, and timely delivery. Responsibilities include editing press releases, credit rating reports, and analytical methodologies, formatting documents in Word, and maintaining stakeholder relationships. The editor must comply with internal style guidelines and manage multiple projects and deadlines, including on-call work.
Good To Have:
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Basic understanding of the debt market, securitization, and the credit rating process.
Must Have:
  • Provide accurate, high-quality editing and proofreading of documents.
  • Format templated documents within Word and transfer tables and charts from Excel into Word.
  • Maintain relationships with analysts, designers, management, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with internal guidelines for style, conventions, and brand management.
  • Fulfill document requests and manage deadlines for several analysts and projects.
  • Work on call (evenings and weekends) on a weekly rotation.
  • Minimum three years of experience as an editor, preferably in financial services or business journalism.
  • Strong copy editing, writing, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Capacity to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • University degree in a related field.

As a member of the Credit Editorial, Publishing, and Media Relations team, the Copy Editor will be responsible for editing and producing financial services research reports and other documents on a timely basis. This position reports to the Vice President, Credit Editorial and Media Relations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate, high-quality editing and proofreading of documents, including press releases, credit rating reports, industry research, and analytical methodologies, in a timely manner across multiple geographies with regional spelling and styles.
  • Format templated documents within Word and transfer tables and charts from Excel into Word as per Morningstar DBRS standards.
  • Maintain relationships with analysts, designers, management, and other stakeholders to produce and enhance content.
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with internal guidelines for style, conventions, and brand management.
  • Fulfill document requests and manage deadlines for several analysts and projects at once.
  • Work on call (evenings and weekends) on a weekly rotation in order to meet urgent business requirements.
  • Participate in global team meetings as required.

Requirements:

  • Minimum three years of experience as an editor, preferably in the financial services industry or in business journalism.
  • Strong copy editing, writing, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Capacity to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Illustrator is an asset.
  • University degree in a related field.
  • Preference is given to candidates with a basic understanding of the debt market, securitization, and the credit rating process.

Total Cash Compensation Range

$58,150.00 - 98,875.00 USD Annual

Inclusive of annual base salary and target incentive
