Job Description

As Director, Government Affairs and Public Policy for YouTube India, you'll be the lead ambassador for YouTube, engaging with policymakers and key opinion leaders. You'll be responsible for developing and executing public policy strategies, managing a team, and advising YouTube leadership on potential policy issues. The role requires deep expertise in Indian policy, strong communication skills, and the ability to navigate complex political environments. Responsibilities include leading public policy engagement, acting as the primary contact for the India YouTube GAPP team, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and providing strategic guidance on policy matters. You will manage a team and ensure effective communication between YouTube leadership and external stakeholders. You'll be responsible for building strong relationships and effectively advocating for YouTube’s interests.

Must have:

15+ years in Government Affairs & Public Policy
Team leadership experience
Public speaking & Internet policy passion
Deep understanding of Indian policy environment
Excellent communication skills
Problem-solving & organizational skills

Good to have:

Familiarity with internet technologies
Ability to adapt to fast-paced environments
Quick grasp of complex technical & regulatory issues

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
15 years of Government Affairs and Public Policy experience.
Experience leading a team of professionals.

Preferred qualifications:

Public-speaking experience and passion for Internet policy issues.
Familiarity with internet technologies and the policy and political environments that surround them.
Ability to grow in a fast moving environment.
Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex technical and regulatory issues.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent personal, political, problem solving, and organizational skills.

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.

As Director, you will be the lead ambassador for YouTube’s issues and interest with policymakers and key opinion formers in the market. You will be an expert in the policy environment affecting YouTube’s business operations in the market. You will coordinate with the Government Affairs Public Policy team (GAPP) to understand the policy issues which affect YouTube’s business operations and develop strategies to protect YouTube’s interests. You will keep the regional and global YouTube GAPP team updated on emerging risks and help develop strategies for how to address them.

In this role, you will be the primary point of contact for the GAPP team with YouTube’s business leadership team around political issues, campaigns, and engagement. You will utilize problem solving and organizational skills, and have the ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing. You will utilize an aptitude for learning and will manage multiple projects with time sensitive deadlines. You will be an effective manager to lead teams.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Responsibilities

Lead YouTube’s Public Policy engagement in India by serving as an ambassador for YouTube’s interests to policymakers and key opinion formers.
Be the primary point of contact for the India YouTube GAPP team on YouTube strategy, campaigns, and engagement in India.
Engage with YouTube leadership and cross-functional teams to develop public policy strategy, campaigns, and engagement within India.
Be a thought leader in how YouTube operates within the India political context and advise YouTube teams on how to get ahead of potential future policy issues.
Manage YouTube APAC GAPP team members in India.
