We are looking for an Effects Technical Director who reflects the innovative spirit, creative talent, production excellence, collaborative mindset and passion for great filmmaking that define ILM
The Effects TD is responsible for generating effects elements, procedural animation and dynamic simulations for feature film and episodic visual effects. They are often responsible for lighting and rendering their work and should be able to composite their renders for internal review.
Design and create procedural systems, RBD, fluid, and particle simulations.
Wrangle and set up simulations for large, effects-driven shots.
Write and hack procedural surface shaders and volumetric shaders.
Perform basic keyframe animation.
Swiftly learn new techniques and efficiently debug nearly any issue.
Coach and mentor junior artists in new techniques and efficiencies.
Proven production experience in feature film / episodic TV with effects simulation work.
High level of competency in computer science, engineering or computer graphics or equivalent work experience.
Solid compositing ability, working knowledge of Nuke.
Excellent problem-solving skills, able to debug simulations and setups with proficiency.
Ability to work with competency, energy and enthusiasm within a team environment with minimal supervision to complete a shot or task.
Exhibits excellent listening and communication skills, able to receive direction.
Excellent presentation and communication skills in dailies by clearly and briefly outlining what has been accomplished and what next should be addressed in the shot.
Engages in the creative process collaboratively, receiving all final decisions with a positive and supportive attitude.
Demonstrates an excellent aesthetic eye, anticipating potential problems and using knowledge of how to use the tools to achieve the desired look.
Effective problem-solving skills and takes the initiative to offer ideas and suggestions.
Prioritises tasks and manages time effectively.
Linux and scripting ability in Python.
Experience in Katana and PRman.
Advanced experience with Houdini and Nuke.
Rendering experience with Mantra/Karma.
Able to script in Vex/Vops.
This role is Hybrid, which means the employee will be required to work a minimum of 2 days on-site per week at a Company designated location, and occasionally from home.
