Job Description

Join eBay's Network Engineering and Operations team as an Incident Response Team, Network Engineer. This role is the first line of defense for network-related issues, focusing on mitigation and troubleshooting across eBay’s global e-commerce network, including datacenters, backbone, and corporate Wi-Fi. You will execute basic infrastructure changes, learn existing mechanisms, and contribute to automation. Ideal candidates have strong networking fundamentals, Linux/Unix experience, and programming skills, with a motivation to quickly learn and work on a live, load-bearing network.
Good To Have:
  • Experience in working on HW platforms from vendors like Cisco, Arista, Juniper and Aruba.
  • Juniper Mist experience.
  • Knowledge on Global protect, Palo alto firewalls and Azure.
  • Certification in JNCIA, CCNA or equivalent preferred.
  • 3 - 4 yrs experience in hands-on router switch or Wi-Fi configuration preferred.
Must Have:
  • Act as the first line of defense to handle and mitigate network related issues.
  • Possess base level proficiency in eBay’s datacenter, backbone, Internet connectivity, Corporate Wi-Fi, security controls, traffic management and application stacks behaviors.
  • Execute basic changes in the network infrastructure to instrument organic growth and capacity restore.
  • Learn and understand existing mechanisms and work on evolving them continually through appropriate automation and tools.
  • Experience and Knowledge of networking fundamentals like TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols like BGP, OSPF, MPLS etc.
  • Knowledge of network protocols like ARP, DHCP, DNS, TFTP etc.
  • Understanding of Routers, Switches, VLAN, WAN, Internet Connectivity.
  • Knowledge of Wi-Fi protocols including all standards of 802:11a/b/g/N/A.c and supporting protocols including RADIUS, UDP, VPN, ACL’s, LDAP etc.
  • Base level experience in Linux/Unix systems and open source tools.
  • Knowledge in languages like Python etc.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to cross-correlate events and troubleshoot issues quickly.
  • Ability to work shift schedules including early/late hours and weekends.
  • Monitor the technical bridge during shifts and handle the Sev calls.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of network technology fundamentals like TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, VLAN, WLAN, CIDR, Netmask, required.
  • Knowledge of network protocols like BGP, OSPF, TACACS, SSH, DNS, ARP, DHCP, TFTP required.
  • Knowledge of languages like Python, Ansible, unix shell etc. required.

Incident Response Team, Network Engineer

Unique opportunity to join the Network engineering and Operations team of one of the largest global e-Commerce companies to learn how large scale networks get engineered, built and operated within Corporate offices, datacenters, backbone and network security layers. Ideal candidates are expected to be conceptually solid on network technology fundamentals as well as possess strong motivation to learn and internalize various aspects of production and enterprise networks quickly. eBay plans to invest well on training ideal candidates to make them capable and effective in working on a live load-bearing network that fuels the e-commerce business. This position can pave the path for a career in the network engineering field, an area with high demand but limited talent availability.

Job Description:

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$89,600 - $158,100

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
