Infrastructure Engineer

We’re hiring an Infrastructure Engineer for a fully remote opportunity based in California. This is a 6–12 month contract position with the possibility of extension.

Join our client’s Infrastructure Reliability group and play a critical role in ensuring the scalability, availability, and performance of a global network supporting millions of users. This position requires deep expertise in network architecture within the Service Provider domain and hands-on experience managing large-scale infrastructure.

You’ll need to work PST hours and be comfortable with asynchronous communication. The on-call rotation is one week, every ~2 months. Onward Search offers weekly W2 pay and benefits for a 40-hour workweek.

Infrastructure Engineer Responsibilities:

• Design, deploy, and operate both new and existing infrastructure to deliver optimal experiences for users and internal teams.
• Develop clean, efficient code to automate tasks, enhance system reliability, and support rapid scaling.
• Create tools that simplify cloud resource consumption, empowering internal teams to innovate swiftly.
• Improve monitoring and logging systems to swiftly detect and resolve infrastructure issues.
• Guide and mentor engineers, fostering a culture of growth and continuous learning.
• Work closely with engineers across various time zones to ensure global coverage and responsiveness.
• Ramp up quickly on the technology stack and integrate seamlessly with the team.
• Drive and implement operational improvements across the network.
• Lead critical projects such as Cisco backbone upgrade rollouts and the design and deployment of POP aggregation layers.

Infrastructure Engineer Qualifications:

• Over 5 years of experience in designing and operating large-scale global networks.
• Must-have expertise with: ISIS, MP-BGP, MPLS L2 and L3VPNs, MPLS-TE, QoS.
• Cisco networking (IOS-XR strongly preferred).
• Proficient in scripting languages such as Python and Golang for automation and tooling.
• Experience with AWS connectivity solutions and container orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with a proactive approach to minimizing downtime.
• Proven leadership in guiding teams and aligning cross-initiative projects.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration and information sharing.

Eligibility requires working over 30 hours per week on an assignment lasting at least 10 weeks.
