Job Summary

This internship at Thales in Brest involves contributing to the development of towed underwater vehicles and their integration. The intern will perform CFD simulations using OpenFOAM/FINE/Marine, manage meshes and data in a LINUX environment, analyze results, and develop/adapt C++ and Python scripts. Collaboration with design and testing teams is also a key part of the role.

Must Have

  • Final year engineering student, master's or equivalent in hydrodynamics or numerical simulation
  • Fluid mechanics and hydrodynamics knowledge
  • Proficiency in CFD software (OpenFOAM, FINE/Marine, StarCCM+)
  • Programming and scripting in C++ and Python
  • Experience with LINUX environment and mesh/data management

Your daily life

The Brest site hosts our digital services activities as well as Thales' expertise in development, integration, and maintenance for maritime patrol and surveillance systems, electronic warfare, sonar systems, and airborne anti-submarine warfare, as well as our digital services activities.

You will join the marine mechanics division within the hydro-mechanical simulation team. You will contribute to the development of towed underwater vehicles, launch/recovery systems, and their integration on the carrier.

In this context, your missions are the following:

  • Perform CFD simulations with OpenFOAM and/or FINE/Marine.
  • Prepare and manage meshes and data sets in a LINUX environment.
  • Analyze and post-process results, write exploitable reports.
  • Develop or adapt scripts and codes (C++, Python).
  • Collaborate with design and testing teams to validate choices.

Your profile

Do you want to deepen your skills in simulation applied to hydrodynamics?

Is your priority to provide reliable and exploitable simulation results to guide design?

You are in your final year of engineering school, master's or equivalent in the field of hydrodynamics or numerical simulation and you have the following skills:

  • Fluid mechanics and hydrodynamics;
  • Practice of CFD software (OpenFOAM, FINE/Marine, StarCCM+);
  • Programming and scripting in C++ and Python;
  • LINUX environment and mesh/data set management.
