Job Summary

WSP is seeking a Laboratory Technician for Mining. This role involves performing and documenting laboratory and field tests on soils, concrete, and asphalt materials, including compaction and granulometry. The technician will be responsible for recording, analyzing, and reporting test results, ensuring compliance with technical standards and quality procedures. Key duties also include equipment calibration, operation, and supporting quality audits and construction quality assurance activities. A technical degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience are required.

Must Have

  • Perform laboratory and field tests on soils, concrete, and asphalt materials.
  • Conduct compaction, granulometry, and asphalt mix production tests.
  • Record, analyze, and document test results accurately.
  • Prepare laboratory and field test procedures according to technical standards.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly test reports.
  • Verify and ensure calibration of measurement and test equipment.
  • Operate equipment following manufacturer's manuals and safety protocols.
  • Supervise the correct execution of tests.
  • Support quality audits and construction quality assurance (CQA) activities.
  • Ensure material quality and equipment traceability.
  • Comply with internal Quality, Environment, and OHS Management System policies.
  • Technical career graduate.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in soil mechanics, concrete, and/or asphalt testing.

Good to Have

  • License for operating portable nuclear densimeters.
  • Courses in ASTM and/or NTP technical standards methods.
  • Valid A1 driver's license.

Main functions of the position:

  • Perform laboratory and field tests related to soils, concrete, and asphalt materials, including compaction, granulometry, and asphalt mix production tests.
  • Record and analyze test results, proposing improvements if necessary and highlighting deviations.
  • Register material samples entered into the laboratory for CQA tests, ensuring their correct identification and traceability.
  • Keep field and laboratory test summaries updated.
  • Comply with the test frequency determined in the project's technical documents, ensuring they are carried out in a timely manner.
  • Record and document test results in official formats, ensuring traceability and accuracy.
  • Prepare laboratory and field test procedures in accordance with applicable technical standards, complying with established standards.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly test results reports.
  • Support in the preparation of technical reports on the tests performed.
  • Record the tests performed and manage the corresponding signatures, ensuring the validity of the results obtained.
  • Verify the status and calibration of measurement and test equipment, ensuring that they have current calibration and are in optimal operating conditions.
  • Operate the equipment according to its manufacturer's manuals, complying with current regulations and the necessary care to avoid damage or deterioration.
  • Supervise the correct execution of the tests following the established procedures.
  • Provide support in quality audits carried out in the quality control area, providing the necessary documentation and attending to requirements.
  • Guarantee the quality of materials through constant tests and verifications, ensuring their conformity with specifications.
  • Maintain the traceability of equipment used in each of the tests, ensuring its correct operation and registration.
  • Review and support for construction quality assurance (CQA) activities.
  • Comply with the internal policies and procedures of the Integrated Quality, Environment, and Occupational Health and Safety Management System in the activities performed, among others.

Qualifications

Professional Background;

  • Graduate of a Technical Career in any of its specialties.
  • Minimum 04 years of experience in field and/or laboratory tests of soil mechanics, concrete, and/or asphalt.
  • Desirable: Have a license for the operation of portable nuclear densimeters.
  • Desirable: Courses in methods of ASTM and/or NTP technical standards or any other technical standard applicable to the tests performed.
  • Desirable: Have a valid A1 driver's license.
  • Availability to work under an atypical regime (e.g., rotational shifts).
