Red Star 3D is looking for a Lighting and Compositing Artist to work remotely on a BBC Christmas Special. The artist will be responsible for lighting and rendering 3D scenes to a high standard, compositing CGI shots, integrating VFX, adding depth of field, color grading, and extracting mattes. The role involves creating drama and atmosphere through lighting and/or compositing, executing shots creatively and technically, and following creative briefs. This is a work-from-home position for artists already legally residing in the UK. Applicants must be based in the UK and cannot be provided with a visa.
Must have:
  • Minimum three years of production experience.
  • Experience with Maya with Arnold (preferred) / RenderMan / VRay
  • Experience with Node-based compositing software (Fusion preferred, Nuke is fine)

Red Star 3D are seeking a UK-based LIGHTING AND COMPOSITING ARTIST to work remotely on our current production of a BBC Christmas Special for Magic Light Pictures.

YOU MUST BE BASED IN THE UK TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS POSITION.

This is a work-from-home position for artists already legally residing in the UK. We cannot provide visas and we cannot consider applicants who do not already live in the UK.

We are looking for an artist who can Light and Comp (using Maya and Arnold for lighting/render and ideally Fusion for comp. If you are unfamiliar with Fusion but know Nuke we are able to provide training).

The job:

  • Light and render 3D scenes to a high standard following lighting briefs and colour keys
  • Composite full CGI shots, layering of elements, integrating VFX, adding depth of field and motion blur. Also colour grading and extracting mattes to create pleasing compositions that help tell the story.
  • Be able to create drama, atmosphere and emotion through lighting and/or compositing.
  • Execute assigned shots creatively and technically in the fastest way possible.
  • Follow creative briefs and implement feedback from the team lead.

Must have:

Contract term: 19 May - 26 September 2025
