Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established local business, Napier Turbochargers, part of Wabtec Corporation, that designs, manufactures and tests industrial turbochargers for power generation, marine, and rail traction industries. The role of Machinist requires a flexible approach covering CNC Machining skills or development across turning, milling, and grinding. Candidates should have a recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 and at least 4 years of relevant industry experience. The position demands self-motivation, good communication, teamwork, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.
Must Have:
  • Recognised time served Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship of NVQ Level 3
  • At least 4 years' relevant industry experience
  • CNC Machining skills (or willingness to develop in turning, milling, grinding)
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Proficiency in using calibrated measuring equipment
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Commitment to targets and measures
  • Good timekeeping
  • Flexibility in working shift patterns/additional hours
  • Good awareness of a safe working environment and Company's HSE policy

Part of the Wabtec Corporation; Napier Turbochargers is part of a world-wide organisation that provides excellent career opportunities both within the UK and abroad. The vacancy will require a flexible approach covering CNC Machining skills or development of skills across the following Production areas:

  • Turning
  • Milling
  • Grinding

Qualifications:

  • Recognised time served Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship of NVQ Level 3

Experience:

  • At least 4 years' relevant industry experience

Skills:

  • Be self-motivated and have good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Understand the need to work as part of a team and be committed to targets and measures of that team
  • Show good timekeeping and be flexible in working shift patterns/additional hours
  • Have a good awareness of the importance of a safe working environment and duties on oneself and others within the Company's HSE policy
  • Demonstrate the ability to read engineering drawings and the use of a variety of calibrated measuring equipment
