Job Summary
As a Programming Intern, you will collaborate with experienced professionals, build practical skills, and contribute to real projects at Rebellion's headquarters in Oxford. This internship focuses on professional engineering practices, including production workflows, agile methodologies, version control, code reviews, and continuous integration. You will learn performance profiling, systematic debugging, and how to write maintainable code, contributing to gameplay systems or build and automation teams.
Must Have
- Undergraduate student from Wadham or St John’s Colleges at the University of Oxford
- Available from 6 July to 28 August
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for the gaming industry
- Strong interest in understanding the game development process
- Foundation in core Computer Science (problem-solving, debugging, object-oriented programming)
- Familiarity with C/C++ and/or Python
- Right to work in the UK for the duration of the internship
- Applications must be submitted by Sunday, 18 January

This opportunity is open exclusively to undergraduate students from Wadham and St John’s Colleges at the University of Oxford. Applicants must be available from 6 July to 28 August, with applications due by Sunday, 18 January.
For 30 years we’ve been independently developing and publishing incredible video games at our multiple studios, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.
As a Programming Intern, you’ll collaborate with experienced professionals, build practical skills, and contribute to real projects at our creative and relaxed headquarters along the Oxford riverside.

What you’ll do & learn
- How professional engineering teams ship features using production workflows and agile practices.
- Best practices for version control, code reviews, continuous integration, and documenting work.
- Communicating status, estimating tasks, and translating playtest/design feedback into technical changes.
- Fundamentals of performance profiling, systematic debugging, and writing maintainable code.
From the Gameplay Teams:
- Designing gameplay systems and writing efficient C/C++ OOP code in-engine.
- Preventing regressions with testing habits and meeting studio coding standards.
- Prioritising bugs/features and collaborating with Design and QA.
From the Build & Automation Teams:
- CI/CD concepts, automated testing, and build orchestration.
- Using Python to create tooling and improve content pipelines.
- Monitoring, metrics, and reliability practices that improve developer workflows.
Requirements
- Internships are exclusively accessible to undergraduate students from Wadham and St John's Colleges at Oxford University.
- Available for attendance from 6 July – 28 August.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for the gaming industry coupled with a strong interest in understanding the game development process.
- Foundation in core CS from your degree: problem-solving, debugging, and object-oriented programming.
- Familiarity with C/C++, and/or Python - used in modules, labs, or side projects.
- Right to work in the UK for the duration of the internship.
