Job Description

The Academic Graduate Appointee will participate in projects supporting various Laboratory missions. Responsibilities include performing advanced manufacturing and casting, as well as modeling and simulation of heat transfer and solidification phenomena. This role involves additively manufacturing high-temperature materials, casting parts using induction or microwave heating, conducting modeling and simulations on microwave casting systems, maintaining detailed laboratory notebooks, generating and analyzing experimental data, participating in research planning, preparing reports and presentations, and providing technical support to engineers and scientists in research and development projects.
Must have:
  • Additively manufacture high temperature materials.
  • Cast parts by induction and/or microwave heating and characterize the product.
  • Conduct modeling and simulations on microwave casting systems.
  • Keep an accurate and detailed laboratory notebook.
  • Generate, organize, and analyze experimental data.
  • Participate in research planning.
  • Prepare progress reports and presentations.
  • Provide technical support to engineers and scientists.

Job Details

We have an opening for an Academic Graduate Appointee to participate in projects supporting a variety of Laboratory missions. As part of a multi-disciplinary team within the Materials Science Division, you will perform advanced manufacturing and casting as well as modelling/simulation of heat transfer and solidification phenomenon. You will actively support and be expected to participate in the design, manufacture, characterization, and simulation of fabrication processes.

 

In this role you will:

  • Additively manufacture high temperature materials.
  • Cast parts by induction and/or microwave heating and characterize the product.
  • Conduct modeling and simulations on microwave casting systems to inform design.
  • Keep an accurate and detailed laboratory notebook; generate, organize, and analyze experimental data; and participate in research planning. Prepare progress reports and presentations to supervisor/mentor and project teams.
  • Provide technical support to engineers and scientists in research and development projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
