and Job Duties:

This position is responsible for teaching and co-designing undergraduate courses related to game design in their area of expertise. An ideal candidate is flexible and able to teach a variety of topics in interactive media arts in a variety of instructional modalities including face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online. The Assistant Professor in Game Design and Interactive Media will teach an annual 4/4 load of classes at all levels in a BA program and, in consultation with faculty and staff, will create increased opportunities for advanced classroom technologies and participate in related service and recruiting needs as they arise. This is a nine-month position with no required research/publication requirement.

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Unity software for 2D and 3D video game animations
  • Knowledge of C# coding language
  • Experience in concept and character design for video game sprites sheets
  • 3D modeling and character rigging in Blender or related 3D software
  • Experience in digital illustration using vector and raster software
  • Knowledge of principles of animation and application to traditional animation and video games

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MA in Game Design, Animation, or other related Interactive Digital Media Arts Area.
  • One or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level, GA acceptable.
  • Knowledge of and experience teaching industry-standard hands-on, project-based fundamentals of game design from concept to final project
  • Demonstrated ability to create and teach contemporary and inclusive culturally sensitive game design, 3D modeling, 2D animation, rigging for 3D models, concept art, or related digital media curriculum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MFA or terminal degree in related area.
  • Professional experience in game design industry as concept artist and/or game developer.
  • Successful documentation of working with and teaching students game design theory and practical applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in coding with C# or other game design language.
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills.

This position is contingent on funding from the Colorado State Legislature, approval by the Board of Trustees, and subject to the policies and regulations of the University of Northern Colorado.
