Technicon Design US is seeking a skilled and motivated Battery Pack Technician for an opportunity onsite in the southern Los Angeles area. The Battery Pack Assembly & Integration Technician will be responsible for building and instrumenting battery packs and subassemblies to support prototyping and validation efforts. This role ensures build quality, traceability, safe HV practices, tool readiness, and coordination with test teams.
Job Functions:
- Assemble battery packs and related subassemblies from BOMs and work instructions; follow torque specs, adhesive/fastener procedures, ESD controls, and HV safety protocols.
- Instrument packs with thermocouples, voltage sense leads, current shunts, pressure/strain sensors, etc. and perform channel mapping and verification.
- Develop, execute, and document validation protocols for adhesive dispensing processes used in battery pack assembly.
- Collaborate with design engineering to define adhesive application requirements (bead size, location, cure time, bond strength) for structural bonding, thermal interface materials, and sealing applications.
- Program, calibrate, and troubleshoot dispense stations, including precision bead control, volumetric accuracy, and temperature/viscosity management.
- Maintain tool and fixture inventory: calibration status checks, preventive maintenance scheduling, and readiness for builds.
- Support pack fixture fabrication: communicate assembly/instrumentation requirements, perform fit checks, and assist with assembly and rework.
- Support pack test setup, execution, and reporting: assist with harnessing, chamber/fixture setup, leak checks, safety interlocks verification, and quick-turn rework between runs.
- Support structured teardowns and evidence preservation; prepare parts for CT/CMM/mechanical testing and coordinate with the Metrology Lab.
- Provide manufacturability and instrumentation input to DVP/test methods and acceptance criteria in collaboration with engineers.
- Complete and maintain required HV safety training; adhere to all lab safety and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Document builds, instrumentation layouts, deviations, and rework with full traceability.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or related field; or equivalent hands-on experience in an engineering lab or production environment.
- Demonstrated experience assembling electro-mechanical systems; ability to read drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
- Hands-on instrumentation experience (thermocouples, voltage/current sensing, strain/pressure) and basic DAQ familiarity.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools, torque tools, and adhesives/fasteners.
- Strong organization skills for kitting, traceability, and inventory management; basic PC skills for documentation.
- Basic knowledge of adhesive dispensing and laser welding.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior HV battery module/pack build experience.
- Basic harness fabrication and crimp quality verification; potting/adhesives and leak testing experience.
- Familiarity with NI, Dewesoft, AVL or similar DAQ; basic data checks using Excel, Python, or MATLAB.
- Understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups relevant to assembly and fixture fit.
- Extensive experience with adhesive dispensing and laser welding.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- On-site lab and shop environment with HV systems and environmental chambers.
- Frequently lift and move components up to 40lbs; stand, bend, and work with hands for extended periods.
- Use PPE as required; comply with all safety procedures and HV practices.
US work authorization is required.
