The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) is a key part of a dedicated behavioral health care team, responsible for triaging member needs, providing short-term therapeutic interventions, and addressing serious mental illness (SMI) or substance use disorder (SUD). This hybrid role involves both virtual and community-based support, developing care plans, educating members on preventative care, and facilitating referrals to appropriate services. The BHS also collaborates with internal teams for member escalation and maintains engagement with high-acuity members.

The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) is part of a dedicated behavioral health care team, and will be available for care team referrals to triage member needs, provide short-term therapeutic interventions, address the needs of members presenting with serious mental illness (SMI) or substance use disorder (SUD), manage behavioral health escalations and help facilitate transitions of care as needed.

Monday-Friday: 8am-5pm

Hybrid role: 75% virtual/25% community

Must reside in the Detroit, MI area

Responsibilities:

  • Provide behavioral health support to members in an in-person and virtual setting.
  • Develop member care plans for members when behavioral health interventions are needed.
  • Provide clinical education to members on preventative care topics, including behavioral health and mental illness.
  • Make appropriate referrals for medical support, social resources, behavioral health and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) to external and internal providers or internal care team.
  • Collaborate with internal care teams to assess and determine need for member escalation or placement in different programs (e.g., lower or higher intensity program).
  • Maintain engagement with high-acuity members.

Work Experience:

  • 1-year post Master’s Degree
  • Must hold active state licensure as an LPC or LMSW (in good standing).
