Character Effects Artist

POSITION SUMMARY:

Sunrise Animation is pleased to announce the production of DAVID, a major animated feature film that tells the story about one of the most captivating characters in all of human history. The Character Effects (CFX) Artist will collaborate with the CFX Lead and CG Supervisor to simulate cloth, hair, fur, and feathers as well as other organic elements in the film. If you have strength and experience in this area, we would love to hear from you. Note that this position can be remote.

REQUIREMENTS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Understand fabric attributes and weight and scale.
• Set up and run simulations for cloth, hair, fur, feather and other organic elements using Houdini.
• Communicate clearly with the Modelling and Rigging team to ensure that the models are suitable for simulation.
• Prototype and implement new solutions, following the standard of our pipeline and contributing to its development and maintenance.
• Meet delivery deadlines under production constraints.
• Defining, documenting, and communicating best practices and techniques for fur/hair/cloth/muscle development.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE (Required):

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar or related role.
• Excellent knowledge of Houdini.
• Experience using Vellum in Houdini.
• A thorough understanding of the techniques and technologies relating to CFX simulation and procedural animation.
• Experience with Cloth and Hair simulation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and time management skills.
• Being self-reliant and able to judge and review your own work.
• Ability to problem solve and predict potential problems with assigned tasks.
• Ability to work within a deeply collaborative environment.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE (Desired):

• Experience with Houdini scripting e.g. Vex, Python, hscript.
