Job Description

The Core Platform/BSP Engineering Manager at Google's Pixel team leads software development for the bootloader, firmware, kernel platform, and device drivers. Responsibilities include bringing up new Pixel devices, designing software solutions for new SoC features (interconnect, boot, reset, memory, high-speed/low-speed IO, interrupt controller, security), collaborating with Android Common Kernel and upstream Linux, and implementing debug and analytics solutions. The role requires extensive experience in embedded systems, software development (C, C++), technical leadership, and people management. The successful candidate will work closely with hardware and Android platform teams to deliver the latest Pixel devices.
Must have:
  • 8+ years software development experience (C, C++)
  • 3+ years technical leadership, project oversight
  • 2+ years people management/team leadership
  • Embedded systems software design & implementation
  • Experience bringing up electronic boards
Good to have:
  • Master's degree in Engineering/CS
  • Experience in complex, matrixed organizations
  • Consumer electronics software delivery experience
  • Upstream Linux, bootloader, or embedded firmware experience
  • Low/high-speed IO experience (I2C, I3C, SPI, PWM, GPIO, PCIe)

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C, C++).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role, overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
  • Experience in designing and implementing software for embedded systems and bringing up electronic boards, including hardware configuration and testing.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
  • Experience delivering software for consumer electronics.
  • Experience working with upstream linux, bootloader, or embedded firmware.
  • Experience working with low speed IO (e.g., i2c, i3c, spi, pwm, gpio) or high speed IO (e.g., PCIE).

Pixel System Software works closely with Android Platform, Pixel Hardware, and external partner teams on delivering the latest Google Pixel devices and Google Tensor System on Chip with the Android experience. Our Core Platform team is responsible for the system software including bootloader, kernel, and Android.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Lead team in software planning and development of bootloader, firmware, kernel platform and device drivers.
  • Participate in bring-up of new Pixel devices from pre-silicon platforms to SoC development boards to prototyping to mass production.
  • Design and implement software solutions for new SoC features in areas such as interconnect, boot, reset, memory, high speed IO, low speed IO, interrupt controller, and security.
  • Collaborate with Android Common Kernel and upstream Linux.
  • Design and implement debug and analytics solutions, as well as issues involving Software, Hardware, and SoC.
