Job Description

The GPU Firmware Manager at NVIDIA leads a team in developing, debugging, and maintaining GPU firmware throughout the product lifecycle. Responsibilities include driving firmware execution for multiple product lines, defining firmware roadmaps, collaborating with various teams on GPU boot process innovation, and improving firmware update efficiency. The role requires a strong focus on reliability, scalability, and debuggability in resource-constrained environments. This includes improving team software processes, core infrastructure (build systems, regression farms), and ensuring firmware security as a root of trust. The ideal candidate will possess strong system design and programming skills (C/C++, Python preferred) along with a deep understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, and device programming.

  • Strong C/C++ programming
  • System design expertise
  • Deep understanding of computer architecture
Good to have:
  • GPU compute/server tech knowledge
  • DMTF spec experience (MCTP, PLDM)
  • SPI flash and firmware update experience
  • Python programming skills

The GPU Firmware Manager at NVIDIA is responsible for leading a team of engineers in the development, debugging, and maintenance of GPU firmware throughout the NVIDIA GPU lifecycle. This role involves driving the execution of firmware for multiple consumer product lines, defining firmware feature roadmaps, and collaborating with various teams to innovate the boot process for GPUs. The position requires a strong focus on firmware update and efficiency in resource-constrained environments, making it an ambitious yet great opportunity for those passionate about low-level software development.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead a team to develop, debug, and maintain GPU firmware and tools throughout the NVIDIA GPU lifecycle, focus more on firmware update with consideration on reliability, scalability and debuggability.

  • Define firmware feature and tools roadmaps to align with hardware and industry specification advancements.

  • Provide direction for design and implementation of creative solutions for boot software.

  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and business teams to transform new firmware features from idea to reality.

  • Improve team software process and core infrastructure via projects dealing with build systems and regression farms.

  • Continuously evaluate and improve security for firmware that functions as a root of trust.

What we need to see:

  • Bachelor of science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).

  • 10+ overall years of experience in the software industry, deep understanding of software development principles, comfortable working in large code space and deep driver stack with 5+ years of managing a team developing device BIOS, firmware, or other low-level software

  • Good system design skills

  • Good programming skills in C/C++, python programming is a plus.

  • Strong experience on reliability, debuggability, and quality improvement.

  • Solid understanding in computer architecture, operating system, kernel driver, device programming.

  • Experience driving feature development, multi-team cross time zone debug.

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

  • Knowledge of GPU compute or server product technologies like BMC (Baseboard Management Controller), Infiniband, PCIE, NVLink.

  • Proof of record of strong experience of DMTF spec like MCTP, MCTP binding, and PLDM

  • Experience with SPI flash and firmware update procedures

  • Prior management experience.

  • Extensive experience collaborating with customer software teams
