Job Description

This internship focuses on improving an existing Machine Learning-based AI solution for air defense surveillance, specifically addressing meteorological disturbance phenomena. The intern will explore and develop Deep Learning solutions (e.g., neural networks) to overcome current limitations and enhance performance, involving state-of-the-art research, data analysis, algorithm design, development, testing, and validation within an operational chain.
Good To Have:
  • Autonomy in information research and technical problem analysis.
  • Methodical approach to experimental work.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, in French and English.
Must Have:
  • Last year of a BAC+5 degree in IT/engineering or equivalent university.
  • Foundations in Data Science and main Artificial Intelligence techniques, especially Deep Learning.
  • Python software development skills.
  • Ability to write technical documents and program documentation.
  • Proficiency in development environments (IDE), version control (Git), and office tools.
Perks:
  • Conventioned internship with gratification based on study level.
  • Collaborative multidisciplinary environment.
  • Inclusive and benevolent environment.
  • Recognized societal and environmental commitment (Thales Solidarity, CAC 40 ESG index).

Your daily life

The Ground and Air Systems activity based at the Massy site is a leader in air operations command and control systems and air defense radar systems.

Within the Air Operation technical department of our engineering competence center, you will join the SW Architecture and Studies service.

In this context, you will participate in our exploratory approach as part of an R&T study on AI, contributing to the digital transformation of Command and Control systems in the Air domain.

Your missions:

In the context of air defense surveillance, a Machine Learning-based solution has been developed to provide decision support to the operator in case of meteorological disturbance phenomena. The objective of this internship is to explore a Deep Learning technical solution (such as neural networks) to compare with the existing solution, in order to overcome identified limitations and seize performance opportunities.

From this perspective, your main missions will consist of:

  • Conducting a state-of-the-art review of existing methods and technologies for this type of problem and studying their advantages/limitations.
  • Analyzing available data and designing then developing algorithms based on Deep Learning models (classic, recurrent, convolutional, or other neural networks);
  • Justifying and documenting design and implementation choices;
  • Testing, verifying, and validating algorithms against functional requirements, security, and performance constraints, within an operational chain.

The mission will take place in a rich technical environment. In addition to hardware and software aspects concerning the technical choices of the solution as well as the development of a prototype.

Your profile:

Are you in the last year of a BAC+5 degree in IT/engineering or an equivalent university, with foundations in Data Science and main Artificial Intelligence techniques, especially Deep Learning, and are you looking for a 6-month internship?

You have the following skills:

  • Python software development;
  • Writing technical files and program documentation;
  • Use of development environments (IDE), version control (Git), and office tools.
  • Autonomy in information research and technical problem analysis, as well as the ability to be methodical in the experimental approach, will be appreciated.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing (in French and English).

The team's word:

The internship will take place in Massy in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.

All our internships are conventioned and subject to gratification, the amount of which is determined according to your level of study.
