Job Summary

Oura is seeking a Research Scientist to join its Health Science Team, focusing on advancing health science through high-quality research and clinical studies. The role involves designing rigorous clinical research, analyzing complex biobehavioral datasets, and generating evidence-based insights. This position supports product development, regulatory approval, and real-world applications by bridging cutting-edge science with practical health solutions, particularly in sleep, stress, activity, cardiometabolic, and women's reproductive health.

Must Have

  • Lead experimental designs for clinical research studies, including IRB preparation and oversight.
  • Analyze and interpret complex data from wearable devices to derive meaningful health insights.
  • Contribute to research papers, patents, and reports; present findings at scientific conferences.
  • Identify, establish, and manage external research partnerships.
  • Provide critical clinical science expertise across company needs.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide data-driven insights.
  • Stay informed on the latest advancements in digital health and scientific literature.
  • PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience, Behavioral or Health Sciences, Sleep and Circadian Biology, etc.
  • Proven track record of leading high-impact publications in health sciences.
  • Proficient in Python (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn, Statsmodels, scikit-learn), R (tidyverse, lme4, brms), and SQL.
  • Extensive experience analyzing large-scale time-series physiological and digital health data.

  • Experience working in partnerships between industry and academia.
  • Proven ability to translate scientific discoveries into practical applications (R&D).
  • Understanding of clinical trial processes and regulatory requirements, including FDA processes.

We are looking for a Research Scientist to join the Oura Health Science Team. Our mission is to position ŌURA as a cornerstone of next-generation health by accelerating high-quality research and clinical studies, R&D and science dissemination, and deepening our footprint in research and clinical ecosystems. Our responsibilities include designing rigorous clinical research studies, analyzing complex biobehavioral datasets, and generating evidence-based insights to advance science at Oura. Grounded in a deep understanding of the scientific foundations of health, disease, and physiological processes, we push the boundaries of research to uncover novel biomarkers and health insights. Our team ensures the scientific validity and clinical relevance of our products, playing a critical role in supporting product development, regulatory approval, and real-world applications. By collaborating with researchers, healthcare professionals, and industry partners, we bridge the gap between cutting-edge science and practical health solutions, enhancing the impact of wearable technology on global health and well-being.

What you will do:

  • Experimental Design: Lead the planning of experimental designs for clinical research studies—including observational, prospective, retrospective, and interventional study types—ensuring conceptual integrity and methodological rigor in data collection and statistical analysis, and leading IRB preparation, submission, and oversight.
  • Data Analysis & Interpretation: Analyze and interpret complex data from wearable devices to derive meaningful health insights, particularly in sleep & circadian, stress and activity, cardiometabolic health, and women's reproductive health.
  • Scientific Dissemination: Contribute to research papers, patents, and reports while presenting findings at scientific conferences and engaging in knowledge translation.
  • External Research Partnerships: Identify, establish, and manage collaborations with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and industry partners to drive scientific research, validation studies, and innovation.
  • Clinical Science Expertise: Provide critical clinical science expertise across company needs, supporting stakeholders in making evidence-based decisions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide data-driven insights that support scientific research and product R&D.
  • Industry & Scientific Awareness: Stay informed on the latest advancements in digital health, scientific literature, healthcare to drive evidence-based product development and innovation.

Requirements

We would love to have you on our team if you have:

  • PhD in Relevant Fields: Doctorate in Psychology, Neuroscience, Behavioral or Health Sciences, Sleep and Circadian Biology, Exercise or Sport Science, Physiology, Cardiovascular or Metabolic Health, Endocrinology, Women’s Health, or Digital Health, with a focus on areas such as sleep & circadian science, cardiometabolic health, sport medicine, stress, and women’s health.
  • Deep Scientific Research Skills & Publications: Proven track record of leading high-impact publications in health sciences, demonstrating expertise in study design, including IRB processes, data interpretation, and translational research.
  • Advanced Statistical Analysis and Programming: Proficient in Python (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn, Statsmodels, scikit-learn), R (tidyverse, lme4, brms), and SQL for data extraction, processing, modeling, and visualization. Extensive experience analyzing large-scale time-series physiological and digital health data, integrating multimodal biobehavioral metrics to generate actionable insights.
  • Passionate, Adaptable, and Self-Driven: Thrives in fast-paced environments, taking initiative and working autonomously while remaining flexible and solution-oriented in the face of evolving challenges.

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

  • Region 1 $142,000- $178,000
  • Region 2 $130,000- $163,000
  • Region 3 $120,000- $150,000
