As a Systems Test Engineer - Pretesting (m/f/d) at Philips in Böblingen, you will be responsible for the independent planning, coordination, and execution of pre-verification, feasibility, and design optimization tests for hardware and system components in the early development phase of patient monitoring systems. You will develop and implement tailored test setups, analyze results, identify design weaknesses, and recommend improvements for robustness, reliability, and compliance. This role involves technical leadership, consulting on test design, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring continuous development of test methods and tools. You will collaborate closely with development and verification teams, participate in design reviews, and ensure regulatory conformity through thorough documentation.
Good To Have:

  • Experience in test automation or Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments.
  • Good German language skills for communication with local test laboratories and suppliers.

  • Practical experience in testing, troubleshooting, and analysis of electronic systems.
  • Familiarity with medical device development processes (IEC 60601, ISO 13485, ISO 14971).
  • Experience with data acquisition systems, measurement technology, and automated test setups.
  • Deep understanding of analog/digital electronics, embedded systems, and system integration.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools (MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, Excel).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Independent planning, coordination, and execution of pre-verification, feasibility, and design optimization tests for hardware and system components in the early development phase of patient monitoring systems.
  • Development and implementation of test setups, fixtures, and methods specifically tailored to the respective design evaluation.
  • Analysis of test results, identification of design weaknesses, and derivation of recommendations for improving robustness, reliability, and compliance.
  • Technical leadership as the central contact person for pretesting and exploratory verification within the HW Test Engineering organization.
  • Consulting in test design, measurement technology, instrumentation, and data analysis.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior engineers and technicians in best practices of test execution and evaluation.
  • Continuous development of test methods, tools, and documentation standards.
  • Close collaboration with development engineers to define pretest goals, acceptance criteria, and evaluation methods.
  • Participation in Design Reviews, Risk Assessments, and technical discussions.
  • Interface between development and verification teams to ensure smooth knowledge transfer and a coordinated test strategy.
  • Execution and documentation of hardware, system, and environmental tests according to internal procedures and applicable standards (e.g., ISO 13485, IEC 60601).
  • Creation and maintenance of test plans, protocols, and reports to ensure traceability and regulatory conformity.
  • Coordination with local test laboratories and ensuring the maintenance and calibration of all relevant equipment and facilities.

Your Profile:

  • Completed degree (Bachelor/Master) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a comparable technical field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in hardware/system design, integration, and verification, ideally in the field of medical technology or a regulated industry.
  • Strong practical experience in testing, troubleshooting, and analysis of electronic systems and prototypes.
  • Familiarity with development processes for medical devices (IEC 60601, ISO 13485, ISO 14971).
  • Experience with data acquisition systems, measurement technology, and automated test setups.
  • Desirable: Experience with patient monitoring devices or other complex electromedical systems, knowledge in EMC and environmental testing as well as reliability engineering, experience in test automation or Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments.
  • Deep understanding of analog/digital electronics, embedded systems, and system integration.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, Excel).
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving competence, and communication strength.
  • Structured, practical, and proactive work style with a focus on technical excellence and quality.
  • Team player and the ability to collaborate effectively with development, verification, and quality assurance.
  • Negotiation-level English skills, good German skills are an advantage for communication with local test laboratories and suppliers.
