This Utilities Lead position at a mayonnaise production facility involves supervising operations and maintenance of building, facility, plant, amenities, and utility systems (HVAC, Compressed Air, Ammonia, Boiler systems). Must Have

  • Lead by example to foster a culture of zero accidents or incidents.
  • Supervise and coordinate the operation, inspection, and maintenance of heating, refrigeration, and utility systems.
  • Develop and manage work schedules and inspection routines for refrigeration operators.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative safety requirements.
  • Manage and direct facility maintenance upgrades and repairs.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to shape and execute long-term strategic plans.
  • Drive cost and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of waste and utility systems.
  • Promote positive union-management relations.
  • Lead the facility’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
  • Serve as the factory’s technical authority for ammonia and boiler systems.
  • Refrigeration A license.
  • License to operate boilers.
  • Diploma or B.S. degree in a manufacturing, scientific or engineering related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Good to Have

  • Preferably in food manufacturing.
  • Thorough knowledge of Facilities Maintenance/Management.
  • Chemical or Process engineering is strongly preferred.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for supervising operations and maintenance of building, facility, plant, amenities, utilities (HVAC, Compressed Air, Ammonia, Boiler systems) to provide a safe and reliable operation that meets internal & regulatory requirements. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Lead by example to foster a culture of zero accidents or incidents, ensuring safety is a non-negotiable priority across all operations. * Supervise and coordinate the operation, inspection, and maintenance of heating, refrigeration, and utility systems, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with technical and safety codes. * Develop and manage work schedules and inspection routines for refrigeration operators, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and plant safety protocols. * Ensure compliance with legislative safety requirements, delivering clear instruction and enforcing plant safety rules to protect employee health and wellbeing. * Facilitate and support training programmes that enhance technical knowledge and safety awareness, aligned with departmental development plans. * Manage and direct facility maintenance upgrades and repairs, overseeing both operational and capital expenditures while maintaining budgetary discipline. * Collaborate with site leadership to shape and execute long-term strategic plans for infrastructure and operational improvements. * Drive cost and waste reduction initiatives that enhance efficiency without compromising operational integrity or product quality. * Maintain a deep understanding of waste and utility systems supporting the site’s manufacturing processes, identifying opportunities for optimisation. * Promote positive union-management relations through proactive problem-solving and correct administration of the Collective Agreement. * Lead the facility’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program in close collaboration with the SHE department. * Serve as the factory’s technical authority for ammonia and boiler systems, representing the site in discussions with corporate and global engineering teams. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * Refrigeration A license. License to operate boilers. * Diploma or B.S. degree in a manufacturing, scientific or engineering related discipline, Chemical or Process engineering is strongly preferred. * Strong technical background with basic understanding of process controls & automation * At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, preferably in food manufacturing. * Thorough knowledge of Facilities Maintenance/Management and how to proactively maintain the overall health of the building and equipment is preferred * Passionate about delivering consistent excellence. * Effective communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to exercise sound judgment, tact and discretion when dealing with others both internally and externally (Contractors, Auditors, Customers). * Strong analytical abilities coupled with effective problem solving and decision-making skills * Effective organizational and time management skills, capable of managing multiple tasks and competing priorities within short timelines.
