Job Description

Google is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer for its Pixel Display Software team. The role involves owning and developing the display software stack across HALs, Android HAL implementations, kernel and bootloader drivers. Close collaboration with gChips, Android platform teams, and hardware designers is essential. Responsibilities include developing expertise in display technologies and SoCs, productizing them for future Pixel devices, and working on SurfaceFlinger, display and graphics HALs. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (Master's/PhD preferred), 2+ years of experience with C/C++ software development, and embedded OS/driver experience. Experience with Linux drivers, bootloaders, DRM/KMS, fbdev, and Android Hardware Composer is highly desirable.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in CS or related field
  • 2+ years C/C++ software development experience
  • 2+ years embedded OS and device driver experience
  • Develop display software stack across HALs and drivers
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in CS or related field
  • Experience with Linux drivers, bootloader, embedded systems
  • Experience with DRM/KMS, fbdev, Android Hardware Composer
  • Experience working with hardware designers

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in C or C++.
  • 2 years of experience working with embedded operating systems and device drivers.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Experience working with Linux drivers, bootloader or embedded system.
  • Experience with display/graphics driver/hal frameworks like DRM/KMS, fbdev, Android Hardware Composer.
  • Experience working with hardware designers and reading/reviewing schematics and spec sheets.

Responsibilities

  • Own and develop display software stack in Pixel Hardware Abstraction Layers (HALs), Android HAL implementations, kernel and bootloader drivers.
  • Collaborate closely with gChips team to drive design of next generation Google Tensor SoC.
  • Develop in-depth expertise in display technologies and SoCs, and productize them in future Pixel devices.
  • Collaborate closely with Android platform teams on enabling new generations of Pixel: SurfaceFlinger, display and graphics HALs, etc.
