Job Summary

We are looking for a colleague to be responsible for a technical textbook and specialist book program. You will decide which books need to be updated and which new topics will be included in your program. You will find your star cast of top German-speaking authors. You will be their sparring partner: you negotiate contract conditions, clarify the appropriate concept and book format, and advocate for their interests within the publishing house. You ensure the comprehensibility of the book texts and metadata as well as the completeness of the agreed content.

Must Have

  • Responsible continuation and expansion of our book program in consultation with the program management for Civil Engineering | Energy | Environment
  • Cultivation and expansion of author relationships with leading experts and engineers
  • Searching for market potential for new titles, topics, and media formats
  • Identification and development of promising book projects with a focus on textbooks and specialist books
  • Conducting negotiations with authors, editors, and universities to conclude contracts
  • Review and evaluation of book manuscripts and conceptual consulting
  • Close cooperation with internal departments such as production, marketing, and sales
  • Strong interest in technology development and innovations
  • Completed vocational training or university degree with a focus on technology or equivalent experience in industry
  • Professional experience in a publishing house or editorial office
  • Strong communication skills, mediation skills and enjoyment of working with people
  • Independent and organized way of working as well as openness to challenges and change
  • Proficient in German and English

About the Position:

This includes in particular:

  • Program Planning: the responsible continuation and expansion of our book program in consultation with the program management for Civil Engineering | Energy | Environment
  • Author Relationships: the cultivation and expansion of author relationships with leading experts and engineers
  • Market Analysis: searching for market potential for new titles, topics, and media formats
  • Project Development: identification and development of promising book projects with a focus on textbooks and specialist books
  • Negotiations: conducting negotiations with authors, editors, and universities to conclude contracts
  • Quality Control: the review and evaluation of book manuscripts as well as conceptual consulting
  • Collaboration: close cooperation with internal departments such as production, marketing, and sales.

This position is offered in our offices in Wiesbaden and Berlin, with a hybrid work model, full-time and permanent.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong interest in technology development and innovations
  • Completed vocational training or university degree with a focus on technology or equivalent experience in industry
  • Professional experience in a publishing house or editorial office
  • Strong communication skills, mediation skills and enjoyment of working with people
  • Independent and organized way of working as well as openness to challenges and change
  • Proficient in German and English
