Control Systems Engineer (Electrical / Electronic)

Multiple exciting opportunities have arisen for Control Systems Engineers with a background in Electrical / Electronic engineering to work on the new generation of Submarine control systems.

 

The Control and Instrumentation (C&I) Sub-System team is responsible for the end-to-end design of reactor control systems, from top level plant requirements, through to control function analysis and system verification. There are opportunities in various areas of systems design and the successful candidates will be aligned to their strengths. The C&I Sub-System team provide direct support to component design, FPGA design and production teams. Additional support is provided to the shipbuilder through build and commissioning documentation and issue resolution.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location.  It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement.  As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing:

You will be responsible for designing the systems that control and protect the reactor plant. Additionally, you will be:

  • Managing and updating the requirements, including traceability, through the product maturity gates
  • Specifying product level requirements and working with suppliers to ensure these have been met
  • Verifying the final product against the design requirements
  • Creating architecture level models to analyse electrical systems
  • Reviewing and approving design intent documentation
  • Support shipbuilder/vendor build and commissioning issue resolution/documentation

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in an electrical or electronics engineering discipline.
  • Member or a related professional engineering institution (eg The IET).
  • Experience in architecture design and V&V, including requirements capture/analysis methods.
  • Background in electronics to enable an intelligent customer relationship.
  • Proactive and self-starting individual who can work with various disciplines across different engineering functions.

One or more of the below is desired:

  • Experience of using requirements management tools (eg DOORS)
  • Knowledge of FPGA or other VHDL design methods
  • Knowledge of functional safety principles
  • Experience of high reliability systems e.g. nuclear, defence, rail

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
