Job Summary
Salesforce is seeking a Director, Senior Corporate Counsel to lead its Global Trade function, overseeing Sanctions, Export Controls, and Customs compliance. This role involves developing and executing global trade strategy, managing a team of trade counsel, monitoring regulations, and ensuring compliance across all products and operations. The successful candidate will provide expert guidance, manage government interactions, and conduct risk assessments, contributing to Salesforce's business objectives and growth.
Must Have
- Lead Global Trade function including Sanctions, Export Controls, and Customs compliance.
- Develop and execute global trade compliance strategy.
- Manage a team of 4-5 trade counsel and professionals.
- Oversee export control compliance for all products, services, and technology transfers.
- Manage export licensing processes and coordinate with government agencies.
- Implement export control policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Oversee robust screening processes for customers, partners, suppliers, and employees.
- Oversee customs compliance for international shipments and cross-border transactions.
- Conduct regular trade compliance risk assessments.
- Provide trade compliance guidance to sales, legal, product, and operations teams.
- At least 8-10+ years in trade compliance work.
- Deep legal and/or regulatory expertise in US OFAC sanctions, EAR, ITAR, and US customs regulations.
- Experience interfacing with government agencies, particularly OFAC and BIS.
- Skilled at assessing enterprise-wide trade compliance risk and designing mitigation strategies.
- Experience managing trade compliance processes like export control classification and denied party screening.
- Proven leadership experience, including supervising and mentoring professionals.
- Adept at building multi-stakeholder collaboration.
- Skilled at communicating trade compliance risks to senior leadership.
Good to Have
- In-house work experience, especially in the tech sector.
- Experience with US Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, US Customs and Border Protection, and DOJ.
- Experience with, or willingness to learn and advise on, non-US sanctions, export control, and customs regimes (EU, UK).
- Experience advising on compliance tool development for a large enterprise, with AI experience a plus.

In this role, you will lead the Global Trade function, including Sanctions, Export Controls, and Customs compliance. You will set the strategy, manage a team of 4-5 trade counsel and professionals), and oversee the operations of these programs. The position reports to the SVP, Global Ethics & Integrity.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and execute global trade compliance strategy aligned with business objectives and growth plans
- Establish and maintain relationships with external trade counsel, customs brokers, and regulatory agencies
- Monitor evolving global trade regulations and assess impact on operations
- Oversee export control compliance for all products, services, and technology transfers
- Manage export licensing processes and coordinate with government agencies (BIS, OFAC, State Department)
- Implement export control policies, procedures, and training programs
- Oversee team running robust screening processes for customers, partners, suppliers, and employees
- Oversee customs compliance for all international shipments and cross-border transactions
- Handle customs audits, inquiries, and dispute resolution processes
- Conduct regular trade compliance risk assessments across global operations
- Develop and maintain trade compliance monitoring and reporting systems
- Provide trade compliance guidance to sales, legal, product, and operations teams
- Develop comprehensive training programs for employees
- Serve as subject matter expert for trade-related aspects of new product launches and market expansions
- Support M&A activities by conducting trade compliance due diligence
- Prepare regular reports for executive leadership and board committees
- Manage government reporting requirements and voluntary disclosure processes
Desired skills and experience:
- At least 8-10+ years in trade compliance work
- Strong preference for in-house work experience; work in the tech sector a plus
- Deep legal and/or regulatory expertise in US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions regulations, US Export Administration Regulations, US International Traffic in Arms Regulations, and US customs regulations
- Experience interfacing with government agencies, particularly OFAC and the US Bureau of Industry and Security. Experience with the US Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, US Customs and Border Protection, and the DOJ a plus
- Experience with, or willingness to learn and advise on, non-US sanctions, export control, and customs regimes, particularly in the EU and UK
- Skilled at assessing enterprise-wide trade compliance risk, and designing right-sized risk mitigation strategies
- Experience managing trade compliance processes, such as: export control classification, denied party screening, KYC due diligence, international shipping, deemed export screening, and company system/internal trade controls
- Proven leadership experience, including supervising and mentoring trade compliance professionals with a range of educational backgrounds and skill sets
- Experience advising on compliance tool development for a large enterprise; experience with AI a plus
- Adept at building multi-stakeholder collaboration and enabling a complex set of business teams and operations with compliance solutions
- Skilled at communicating trade compliance risks, opportunities, and needs to senior company leadership across different business functions
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic business environment

For Washington D.C based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $211,500 to $306,600.
For Illinois based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $211,500 to $306,600.
