Job Description

The objective of this internship is to compare angular radar precision performances between a historical parabolic antenna technology with servo-mechanisms and new AESA digital electronic scanning antenna technologies. The challenge is to quantify the precision differences between these two technologies to position the new technology relative to the existing one. The intern will learn about angular precision notions, servo-mechanism modeling, perform simulations using Matlab/Simulink, and synthesize findings in a report.
Good To Have:
  • Interest in digital and more classical technologies
Must Have:
  • Understand angular precision notions (monopulse radar error measurement)
  • Understand servo-mechanism modeling (open-loop, closed-loop transfer function, correctors)
  • Perform simulations (Matlab/Simulink) on servo-mechanism technology
  • Utilize existing simulations (Matlab) on AESA technology
  • Synthesize precision performances in an internship report for comparison
  • Knowledge in Signal Processing and Automation (Controlled Systems)
  • Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink programming
Perks:
  • Conventioned internship with remuneration based on study level
  • Technological expertise
  • Attention to employee work-life balance
  • Inclusive and benevolent environment
  • Recognized societal and environmental commitment (Thales Solidarity, CAC 40 ESG index)

  • An inclusive and benevolent environment
  • Recognized societal and environmental commitment (Thales Solidarity, CAC 40 ESG index…)

Your daily life

Located 20 minutes from the Paris-Saclay technology hub, the site is one of the largest centers of excellence for surface radars. We contribute to developing, designing, integrating, and testing aerial surveillance radars dedicated to target detection and identification.

The objective of this internship is to compare angular radar precision performances between a historical parabolic antenna technology with servo-mechanisms and new AESA digital electronic scanning antenna technologies.

The challenge is to quantify the precision differences between these two technologies to position the new technology relative to the existing one.

Your mission:

  • Understand angular precision notions (monopulse radar error measurement);
  • Understand servo-mechanism modeling (open-loop, closed-loop transfer function, correctors, …);
  • Perform simulations (Matlab/Simulink) on servo-mechanism technology and use existing simulations (Matlab) on AESA technology;
  • Synthesize precision performances in an internship report to enable comparison between these two technologies.

You will work with a person who masters AESA technology, could rely on documents for servo-mechanism antenna technology, and potentially experts in this technology, some of whom are based in Brazil.

Your profile:

Knowledge in Signal Processing and Automation (Controlled Systems)

You are proficient in Matlab/Simulink programming.

You are interested in digital and more classical technologies.

A word from the manager:

You will work in an engineering team, for the development of advanced digital radar systems. You will evolve in a high-tech environment, with challenges in the defense sector.

All our internships are conventioned and subject to remuneration, the amount of which is determined according to your level of study.

Thales, a Handi-Engaged company, recognizes all talents. Diversity is our best asset. Apply and join us!
