About the Role
Introduction to the Merchant Management Department
The Merchant Management Department's mission is to increase the number of places where PayPay can be used, making it more convenient for users. This is achieved by planning and building operational tasks related to merchants and business partners, establishing risk countermeasures, thereby contributing to merchant acquisition, GMV (Gross Merchandise Volume) increase, business contribution through cost optimization, and the overall growth of the PayPay Group. The team consists of members in their 20s to 40s, and each team takes ownership in promoting operations across a wide range of areas, not only in the payment merchant domain but also in managing various business partners in line with PayPay's business growth.
Background of Recruitment
With the expansion of cashless payments and financial services, our company's merchant-related operations have become more diverse and sophisticated. To address this, it is urgent to promote the automation and sophistication of the screening process using AI/machine learning to achieve rapid and fair screening. In addition, the visualization of AI model decision-making rationale and ensuring accountability in compliance with laws and regulations are becoming increasingly important. We are recruiting talent who can lead the overall process from both the utilization of new technologies and risk management perspectives.
Specific Job Responsibilities
You will be responsible for building automated and advanced mechanisms utilizing AI for screening operations related to our payment service merchants and various service applications (account opening, factoring, loans, etc.). You will consistently drive process analysis, AI/machine learning model design and development, data infrastructure development, system implementation, and operation. You will also be responsible for defining requirements related to laws, regulations, and various risk responses at a level that ensures accountability and transparency to internal and external stakeholders.
- Design and development of screening logic and rules utilizing AI/machine learning models.
- Feature engineering and data collection (UI improvements for forms, expansion of data sources), processing, model training, and evaluation based on the above premise.
- Design, implementation, and operation of system platforms for screening automation (in collaboration with engineers and data scientists).
- Coordination and requirements definition with related departments (risk department, legal, sales).
- Visualization of decision-making rationale to ensure accountability and transparency (important features, analysis of verification results in tests, etc.), explanations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaboration, coordination, and requirements definition with related departments of group companies (banks, cards, etc.).
- Continuous monitoring and improvement proposals for model accuracy and rule enhancement.
Appeal of this Position
- Gaining experience in leading unprecedented business construction by utilizing AI/machine learning, spanning technology, data, and legal regulations.
- Acquiring knowledge and practical business experience related to relevant laws such as the Installment Sales Act, Payment Services Act, and international brand rules.
Required Experience/Skills
- Practical experience in designing, developing, and operating AI/machine learning models (including experience using Python, SQL, etc.).
- Knowledge and experience regarding the series of processes for data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation.
- Experience in business requirements definition and system design (experience collaborating with engineers and data scientists).
- Negotiation and coordination skills with multiple departments (risk management, legal, sales, etc.).
- Experience in implementing or operating Explainable AI (XAI), or knowledge of visualizing model decision-making rationale.
- Basic understanding of laws and regulations in financial services and screening operations.
- Technical communication skills in English (reading and writing).
Desired Experience/Skills
- Experience using large-scale data analysis platforms (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake, etc.).
- Experience building screening/fraud detection models utilizing external data sources and APIs.
- Experience in credit screening/risk management at financial institutions (banks, credit cards, payment service providers, etc.).
- Experience planning and executing UI/UX improvements for data acquisition efficiency.
- Experience building/operating MLOps environments for model monitoring and accuracy improvement.
- Project management experience in multinational teams.
- English meeting facilitation and technical presentation skills.

- Hybrid Workstyle (office, home, or satellite office for remote work)

Working Hours
- Super flex-time system (no core time)
- Principle: 9:00 AM - 5:45 PM (7 hours 45 minutes actual work + 1 hour break)
Holidays
- Weekends, public holidays, year-end and New Year holidays, and company-designated days off.
Leave (Statutory Leave and Company Benefits)
- Annual paid leave (14 days in the first year, prorated based on joining month. Usable from joining date).
- Personal leave (5 days granted each year / 3 or 5 days granted in the first year depending on joining month).

Salary
- Annual salary system (including some fixed overtime pay)
- Determined by company regulations based on experience, skills, performance, and contribution.
- Reviewed once a year.
- Special bonus (incentive) paid once a year based on company performance and individual contribution.
- Overtime work allowance, late-night work allowance available.
