Senior Platform Policy Specialist, Minor Safety and Exploitative Content

We are looking for a curious and empathetic Senior Policy Specialist who will help drive our mission of keeping Discord users safe by developing or improving our content policies to address issues in the area of minor safety and exploitative content.

What You'll Be Doing

• Identify, research, and write or update content policies to address minor safety and exploitative content issues as they appear on Discord

• Partner with Trust & Safety to help operationalize new policies through agent training, tooling changes, and enforcement guidance.

• Respond to policy escalations from Trust & Safety, Product, Legal, Communications, and more.

• Coordinate cross-functional responses to content decisions that balance differing opinions and perspectives and weigh up risk to provide effective policy advice.

• Write user-facing communications to explain our policies and enforcement decisions through blog posts, Help Center Articles, and other resources.

• Articulate Discord’s values and policy principles to product, design, engineering, and other teams.

• Guide complex policy projects addressing issues related to child sexualization material, inappropriate sexual conduct with children, and sexually explicit content.

This role involves potential exposure to sensitive or graphic content, including but not limited to vulgar language, violent threats, pornography and other graphic images.

You Will Thrive In This Role If

• Experience working on relevant issues, such as advocacy, research, or specialization from a non-profit, community organization, or tech company, which may include:

  • Child sexual abuse material and content that sexualizes children

  • Inappropriate sexual conduct with children

  • Sexually explicit content, including content that is nonconsensually created and/or shared

  • Self-harm and violent, graphic content

  • Human trafficking

• Experience in policy writing and development, social science research, and data-driven decision-making.

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

• Familiarity with project and/or program management.

• Passion for supporting both your team and our users

• Experience with third-party stakeholder engagement or management

• Experience in international social issues or policy development

• Multilingual
