This role is for a Senior Scene Concept Artist in Guangzhou, responsible for leading the artistic direction and visual style of game scenes. The designer will provide creative input across all project stages, guide junior designers, collaborate with other departments, and ensure designs are optimized for various game engines and platforms. The position requires a strong artistic foundation, technical understanding, and innovative problem-solving skills.

Must Have

  • Lead scene concept art design, defining artistic direction and visual style.
  • Provide creative design from concept to optimization.
  • Lead and guide junior/mid-level concept artists.
  • Collaborate with 3D modeling, UI/UX, and animation teams.

  • At least 1 large game project scene design lead experience.
  • Proficiency in digital drawing tools like Photoshop, Painter, with solid hand-drawing and digital painting skills.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software (Blender, Maya) and game engine artistic requirements.
  • Familiarity with Unity, Unreal Engine resource requirements and performance characteristics.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork spirit.
  • Efficient time management and project management abilities.

1. Lead Scene Concept Art Design

  • Responsible for planning and designing the artistic direction and visual style of scenes in game projects, ensuring high consistency between art design and game mechanics, story background, and technical requirements.
  • Provide creative design at various stages of the project, including but not limited to concept design, final presentation, and detail optimization, ensuring the uniqueness of scene design and the immersion of the game.

2. Lead and Guide the Team

  • As a senior designer, lead and guide junior and intermediate concept artists, providing creative support and technical guidance to ensure the design team produces high-quality standards.
  • Work closely with the project art director and other departments (such as 3D modeling, UI/UX design, animation, etc.) to solve cross-departmental art challenges and ensure smooth implementation of scene design in actual development.

3. Efficient Execution and Iteration

  • During project iterations, optimize scene design and continuously provide creative support, ensuring that the design consistently maintains high quality amidst changing requirements and feedback.
  • During the production process, make necessary adjustments and optimizations to the design based on feedback from the art and technical teams, ensuring that the scene design meets both artistic requirements and can be efficiently implemented technically.

4. Balance Art Style and Technology

  • While ensuring artistic quality, consider the technical implementation and optimization of scenes, ensuring that the design can adapt to game engines (such as Unity, Unreal) and perform well on different platforms (PC, console, mobile, etc.).
  • Have a deep understanding of art resource usage, lighting effects, material processing, etc., and be able to provide clear references and guidance to the 3D team.

5. Innovation and Creativity Driven

  • Continuously pay attention to the latest trends in the game industry and art field, promote innovation and forward-looking visual expression, ensuring the leading edge of scene design in projects.
  • Provide creative solutions to complex scene design challenges and possess forward-looking artistic planning capabilities.

6. Project Management and Communication

  • Assist the project art director in formulating the project art schedule, ensuring timely delivery of scene concept art, tracking progress, and adjusting priorities.
  • Report project art progress to project management, provide professional advice, and resolve potential art issues.

Job Requirements

1. Educational Background

  • Bachelor's degree or above in art, design, computer graphics, or related fields, with a solid artistic foundation and creative ability.

2. Experience Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in game scene concept art design, with complete art design experience in multiple commercial projects, and at least 1-2 successful mainstream game project experiences.
  • At least 1 large game project scene design lead experience, capable of independently undertaking and leading scene design work, and participating in the overall artistic style planning of the project.

3. Skill Requirements

  • Proficient in digital drawing tools such as Photoshop, Painter, with solid hand-drawing and digital painting skills, capable of independently completing complex scene concept designs.
  • Proficient in 3D modeling software (such as Blender, Maya) and the artistic requirements of game engines, capable of efficient collaboration with the 3D team to provide feasible design solutions.
  • Familiar with the resource requirements and performance characteristics of mainstream game engines such as Unity, Unreal Engine, capable of providing artistic support for cross-platform game performance.
  • Deep understanding of artistic principles in scene design such as perspective, light and shadow, materials, and composition, with strong visual expression ability.

4. Teamwork and Communication Skills

  • Good communication skills and teamwork spirit, capable of close collaboration with other departments, and able to provide effective guidance and feedback to team members.
  • Able to clearly convey design ideas, adjust creative direction according to project needs, and ensure design implementation.

5. Efficient Time Management and Project Management Skills

  • Able to reasonably plan design time to ensure timely delivery of high-quality design works.
  • Capable of quickly switching design ideas and efficiently completing tasks when multiple projects are running in parallel.
