Job Description

Google Enterprise Network (GEN) seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead a team responsible for automating network management systems. This role requires leading the development of a new, more secure, and faster enterprise networking model. Responsibilities include writing and testing code, participating in design reviews, code reviews, contributing to documentation, debugging system issues, and managing project priorities. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in software development, testing, and architecture, along with experience in networking, distributed systems, and leading technical teams. This position offers opportunities to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to a critical Google infrastructure.

Must have:

8+ years software development experience
Experience with data structures/algorithms
5+ years testing and launching software
3+ years software design and architecture
Leadership experience
Networking domain experience

Good to have:

Master's degree in related field
Experience with infrastructure/distributed systems
Experience in cross-functional projects
Experience developing accessible technologies

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
Experience building and developing infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
Experience working in the networking domain.
Experience developing accessible technologies.

In this role, you will lead a team of Software Engineers responsible for the systems that automate the management of the network. You will play a key role in bringing a new model for enterprise networking to the market that is more secure and has much greater development velocity than traditional networking solutions.

Responsibilities

Write and test product or system development code.
Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide on available technologies.
Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style, guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
