Crystal Dynamics is seeking an Art Director to shape the visual experience of their next-gen games. This role involves setting the artistic direction, driving visual quality, and leading a diverse team of artists. The Art Director will define the artistic vision, collaborate with external partners, manage art production, and ensure high-quality asset development. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and a deep understanding of art pipelines, technologies, and industry trends. This role is to bring creative concepts to life and shape the future of award-winning franchises like Tomb Raider and Perfect Dark.
Must have:
  • Proven Art Director experience in the video game industry.
  • Strong portfolio showing high-fidelity artistic principles.
  • Extensive knowledge of game art production pipelines and tools.
  • Ability to execute a unique and compelling visual style.
  • Strong leadership skills with creative team management.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting project priorities.
Good to have:
  • Experience directing art for AAA titles, especially action-adventure games.
  • Strong drawing skills and passion for visual arts.
  • Proficient in Unreal Engine (specifically Lumen and Nanite).
  • Experience with co-development teams in EU time zones.
  • Experience working within an existing IP.
  • Awards or recognition in game art.

Join Crystal Dynamics as an Art Director, where your creative vision and leadership will shape the visual experience of our next-gen games. As an Art Director, you will be responsible for setting the artistic direction and driving the visual quality across the game. This role requires a combination of artistic skills, technical understanding, and managerial acumen to lead a diverse team of artists and collaborate with other departments. Your ability to inspire and guide the team will be essential in bringing our creative concepts to life.

As an Art Director, you will:

  • Define and communicate the artistic vision of the game, ensuring it aligns with the overall creative direction, game design and narrative.
  • Work closely with our external co-development partner, guiding artists across different time zones to drive creative alignment and ensure the delivery of high-quality assets.
  • Lead, inspire, and mentor the art team, fostering a collaborative and creative environment.
  • Work closely with other department leads and directors to ensure a cohesive and seamless game experience.
  • Manage art production schedules, resources, and workflow to meet project milestones.
  • Oversee the development of art assets, from concept through to final implementation, maintaining a high standard of quality.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure art assets are optimized for performance without compromising artistic integrity.
  • Drive innovation by staying abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Represent the visual aspects of the game in internal reviews and external presentations.

To be considered for this role, we require the following:

  • Proven experience as an Art Director, Principal, or Lead Artist in the video game industry.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating a deep understanding of high-fidelity, photorealistic artistic principles and techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of game art production pipelines and tools.
  • Ability to articulate and execute a unique and compelling visual style.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in managing and motivating creative teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Able to adjust quickly and effectively to shifting project priorities.

Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • Experience in directing art for AAA titles, particularly in the action-adventure genre.
  • Strong drawing skills and passion for visual arts.
  • Proficient in Unreal Engine (ideally, working specifically with Lumen and Nanite).

It'll be a bonus if you also have:

  • Experience and willingness to work with co-development teams in EU time zones.
  • Experience working within an existing IP.
  • Awards or recognition in the field of game art.

The pay range for this role includes the annual base salary, not including bonus and the generous benefits package that Crystal Dynamics provides all full-time employees. Individual compensation is determined by work location within our approved states or regions, as well as additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education.

Pay Range (United States)

$110,000 — $248,000 USD

Pay Range (Canada)

$115,000 — $201,000 CAD
