Data Scientist – Data Science Analytics and Enablement (DSAE)

Our Data Science Analytics and Enablement (DSAE) team inspires PlayStation to make impactful, customer centric decisions through detailed integration of data.

Currently there are over 100 people in the global DSAE team, including data science, data governance and analytics professionals. We work closely with engineering and product management teams to deliver data products, insight, predictive analytics and data visualisation.

Overview

Data Scientists in the DSAE team apply sophisticated analytical methods and tools to drive value from the data through techniques such as customer segmentation, predictive modelling, forecasting and other algorithms. Our work delivers an in-depth understanding of consumer behaviours and supports multi-channel targeting and personalization.

As a data scientist in our team, you will enable people across our business to better understand our customers and make data-driven decisions to drive Customer Lifetime Value.

What you’ll be doing

Working in a London-based agile team that creates and maintains end-to-end data science products for the business, you will collaborate closely with other data scientists, analytics engineers, and product managers to support team members throughout the business in areas such as marketing, operations, engineering, product planning, R&D and finance.

You will participate in requirements capturing through data modelling and processing; performing deep insight; forecasting consumer behaviours and spend; communicating findings to team members and building reusable data products through close collaboration with the relevant data engineering teams.

You could have a background in data science, consulting, computer science, customer insight or elsewhere, but you will be passionate about turning large volumes of data into actionable insight and have the blend of commercial and technical skills required to do so.

You will partner with the team to understand requirements from partners, prepare and present findings to other technical and non-technical teams. You will help drive data literacy across a range of internal teams.

10% of your time is reserved for self-directed exploration, allowing you to investigate new tools, techniques, and ideas that can improve our data science capabilities and drive innovation.

Primarily based in London, but a global role supporting colleagues in Europe, the US and Japan. Some global travel may be required, usually to Sony offices in California or Tokyo.

Skills required:

  • Outstanding analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Strong data exploration, data management and coding skills. You're able to write production quality code in Python and SQL, including common data science libraries
  • An academic background that includes the fundamentals of data science. You will have a Masters’ degree or PhD in a relevant technical or mathematical field, or equivalent experience. And you'll have a strong understanding of statistical tools and data science algorithms.
  • Experience applying data science techniques
  • Commercially aware, with experience of drawing insights from sophisticated and large volumes of data
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills; including the ability to present detailed analyses to a broad audience range
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other business units to achieve common objectives
  • Organized self-starter, with drive and dedication; able to work with little supervision; able to prioritize workloads.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience working with data science tooling (orchestrators, feature stores)
  • Experience of visual analytical tools such as Tableau
  • Experience of relevant industries (e.g. gaming, digital commerce, subscription services)
