Job Description

As a Senior Business Controller, you will support stakeholders in different settings ranging from the day-to-day operations to ad-hoc initiatives. With your solid understanding of the business, you will work within the planning cycle to support the budget and forecast process and provide financial analysis, simulations, and reporting in support of various projects and business cases. In addition, you will provide managers ongoing guidance and coaching to support decision-making. The role is based in Riga, Latvia and is part of the global BC team and reports to the Senior Business Controller Manager located in Malta.

Your responsibilities:

  • Assist stakeholders to analyze the financial performance of the units in the region, by helping them analyze trends and identifying inefficiencies. Participate actively in management discussions by providing critical financial insight and constantly challenge management to contain controllable costs.
  • Provide information to help in decision making by modelling the effect of proposed changes.
  • Help management set targets for the managers and their teams.
  • Be the person responsible to coordinate all activities related to the local cost budget process.
  • Liaise with accounting and payroll teams to adjust processes and systems to extract the correct data required for analysis.
  • Keep the Group’s Business Control team updated on activity in the region and deliver reporting of KPIs required by group.  
  • Lead, coordinate, and support various processes mainly but not exclusively related to budgeting, forecasting, month end and ad-hoc projects.
  • Use existing tools to develop and improve current processes and data quality.
  • Support, coach and develop any direct report lines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role
  • It is essential that the individual has excellent analysis skills with a background in accounting (supported by an accounting qualification). The person will need personal initiative and curiosity to dive into accounting and operational data on their own to pick trends that might not be visible using just high-level analysis.
  • The person needs to be capable of work independently and have great communication skills. The job entails both seeking information from different teams and challenging them. It also requires effectively present data which is sometimes complicated to different audiences which might not have a financial background.
  • Good command of English language (both written and spoken)
  • Proven experience as a Business Controller preferably supporting teams in more than one geographical location in mid-size organizations (international experience is a merit, start-up/entrepreneurial cultures is a merit)
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Excel, good knowledge of accounting systems (Navision is a merit) and accounting rules, (experience of Power BI or similar data visualization tools is a merit)
  • Previous experience related to project management, HR process and Technology will be considered an asset.
