As Google's products and services grow to serve our billions of users, the Strategic Negotiation team works behind the scenes to secure infrastructure for Google's future. It's a big job that involves everything from operating underwater cables to finding data center space. In this role, you combine your deep market knowledge with tech industry savvy to find solutions that support Google's growth. You'll work with specific teams to oversee vendor and partner relationships. Your successful management skills have the potential to impact every part of the business and save Google millions of dollars in operating costs. You'll ensure that we receive contract compliance on our third-party agreements, while identifying the most cost-effective solutions for our needs. You'll take lead on special projects, manage vendors and present your recommendations to Google leadership. In this role, you will work to secure network infrastructure, including dark fiber, wavelengths, and collocation for Google's network, and to strategically grow the peering/interconnect relationships that help deliver content and products to our customers. You will deliver these solutions through strategic negotiations and acquisitions of network infrastructure and assets that meet the unique needs of our business. You will have commercial responsibility in managing the relationships with our external partners, and for interfacing with the internal teams in order to deliver these complex solutions.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 4 years of experience with negotiations or business development
  • Experience in financial analysis and modeling, agreement structuring, and vendor management
  • Experience in performing data-driven network availability and resiliency analysis
Good to have:
  • 4 years of experience managing projects or supporting the planning and development of network infrastructure agreements
  • Ability to connect with executive level industry executives to develop strategic relationships/initiatives
  • Ability to negotiate complex agreements with vendors, partners, and suppliers
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time, as needed

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience with negotiations or business development in obtaining services from network infrastructure providers in colocation data centers, colocation data center construction and equipment, dark fiber, optical transport, subsea communication systems, and IT services.
  • Experience in financial analysis and modeling, agreement structuring, and vendor management.
  • Experience in performing data-driven network availability and resiliency analysis.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 4 years of experience managing projects or supporting the planning and development of network infrastructure agreements.
  • Ability to connect with executive level industry executives to develop strategic relationships/initiatives.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $117,000-$172,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop long-term relationships with key commercial partners including telecommunications companies, network carriers, and collocation operators for the purposes of managing our strategies of asset acquisition, deep edge-network pen, and Cloud partnerships.
  • Negotiate and implement commercial frameworks that allow for predictable, efficient delivery of assets to meet Google's portfolio of products and services.
  • Identify, evaluate, and acquire metro and long haul dark fiber assets. Design and build a new infrastructure solution through joint projects or independently.
  • Leverage experience in collocation and real estate knowledge to acquire collocation space for network, peering, and edge requirements.
  • Research and understand market forces in the network infrastructure industry and incorporate these signals into Google's acquisition strategies and new market entry.
