Your mission

Pull up a chair and join us by the hearth! The Hearthstone team is looking for a Senior 2D Generalist Artist to work on new and exciting content for our players. The focus for this position will be on providing the art needed to help realize the vision for the game from concept to in-game models. Responsibilities include creating concepts that support / further the vision of the game, painting textures for use on in-game assets and working to provide a consistent aesthetic for the art team. The ideal candidate has a firm grasp of composition, color, painting, and visual design.

This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Irvine, CA.

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

• Ability to design and render in game assets from concept to final implementation in Hearthstone’s whimsical painterly style
• Craft highly visionary character, creature, environment, and prop concepts that inspire a team and contribute to Hearthstone’s unrivaled visual direction
• Work closely with the rest of the art team, providing feedback to help maintain a consistent aesthetic across game assets
• Exercise creative problem solving alongside other artists, designers, and engineers to collaborate on creatively complex assignments
• Ability to communicate an inspirational artistic vision across Hearthstone’s features and creative projects

Minimum Requirements

Experience

• 5 + years of experience as a 2D Artist, or similar role.
• Experience illustrating colorful and stylized work at a high-quality bar

Knowledge & Skills

• Be able to own the process from initial sketch to finished in-game asset for new elements while working within a small strike team
• Help take the iconic visuals of Hearthstone to the next level
• Strong understanding of Blizzard’s visual style and the vision to take it in new and exciting direction
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to give and receive creative feedback that elevates the team individually and creatively

Key attributes

• The ability to thrive in an iterative environment built on giving and receiving constructive & practical feedback

Bonus Points

• Comfortable with the Unity engine
• Previous experience in 3D pipeline
• Good foundation in the traditional arts including, but not limited to painting, sculpture, figure drawing, and illustration

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $80,800.00 - $149,400.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
