Job Description

Google offers a 12-14 week paid Software Developer Internship (PhD) for Summer 2025. Interns will work on crucial projects, developing scalable, distributed software systems and collaborating on smaller projects. Responsibilities include designing, testing, deploying, and maintaining software solutions. The internship provides personal and professional development opportunities, an executive speaker series, and community building. Interns will contribute to a team, develop automation scripts, apply computer science knowledge to real-world problems, and analyze information to find optimal solutions. The role may involve Software Development or Site Reliability Engineering, determined by the recruitment team based on the applicant's resume.

Must have:

PhD pursuit in software development or related field
Experience in C/C++, Java, or Python
Data structures and algorithms knowledge
Design, test, deploy, and maintain software

Good to have:

Research experience in AI, ML, or related areas
Experience with C#, JavaScript, Go, etc.
Strong software design skills
Currently attending a Canadian degree program

Minimum qualifications:

Pursuing a PhD program with a focus on subjects in software development or other technical related fields.
Experience in Software Development and coding in one or more of the following: C/C++, Java, or Python.
Experience with data structures or algorithms gathered from inside or outside of school or work.

Preferred qualifications:

Currently attending a degree program in Canada and available to work full time for a minimum of 12 weeks outside of university term time.
In their penultimate academic year or returning to a degree program after completion of the internship.
Research experience in Algorithms, Architecture, Artificial Intelligence, Compilers, Database, Data Mining, Distributed Systems, Machine Learning, Networking, or Systems.
Programming experience in one or more of the following: C/C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python Objective C, Go, or similar.
Experience in computer science, with competencies in data structures, algorithms and software design.

Software Developer Intern:

As a key member of a versatile team, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs. We need our developers to be versatile, and enthusiastic in addressing new problems as we continue to push technology forward. You will design, test, deploy and maintain software solutions as you grow and evolve during your internship.

Site Reliability Intern:

Our developers create, fix, extend and scale the code to keep it working and to harden it against all the bad actors of the internet. We drive reliability and performance on a massive scale. You will work on software development projects to keep important business-critical systems up and running from code-level troubleshooting of traffic anomalies to maintenance of our most cutting-edge services, monitoring and alerts to building new automation infrastructure.
