Job Description

This Software Engineer role focuses on developing and optimizing camera system software for Google Pixel phones. Responsibilities include supporting the Android camera Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL), designing and developing camera drivers and firmware, validating them on emulation and silicon, optimizing software performance, power, and memory, and integrating machine learning and computer vision algorithms. The role involves working on the software layers below public Android camera APIs, contributing to features and infrastructure for an industry-leading mobile camera experience. The team builds camera system software, Google ISP software, Google Camera HAL, multi-camera frameworks, and sensor software components.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
2+ years software development (C/C++)
2+ years ISP algorithm or camera/Android development
Camera software stack support for Android HAL
Camera driver & firmware design and development

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in Computer Science
4+ years Camera ISP, sensors, ARM, or low-power SoCs experience
C++ or C-like language familiarity
Embedded environment programming experience
Machine learning and computer vision algorithm integration

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C or C++).
2 years of experience in ISP algorithm development or camera/android development.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
4 years of experience with camera ISP, sensors, ARM, or low-powered SoCs.
Familiarity with C++ or a C-like language.
Familiarity with or programming experience in an embedded environment.

Our scopes include the following: Camera System Software that powers Pixel Camera features; Google ISP Software (i.e., ISP user space and kernel drivers); Google Camera Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL); Advanced Multi-Camera Software Frameworks Camera sensor software components that support both camera and non camera use cases; and Pixel Camera Platform Health (i.e., Stability, Power, Performance, Memory).

Responsibilities

Utilize camera software stack to support Android camera Hardware Abstraction Layer.
Design and develop camera hardware drivers and firmware, as well as validating them on emulation and silicon.
Participate in camera software and driver bring up on silicon.
Optimize pixel camera system software performance, power, and memory.
Use machine learning and computer vision algorithm development and integration.
