Job Description

As a Systems Development Engineer, Customer Deployments at Google, you'll deploy and operate Google Distributed Cloud Hosted (GDCH) solutions at customer sites and internal deployments. You'll troubleshoot infrastructure issues (network, storage, servers, OS, Kubernetes), conduct training for clients and partners (including international travel), and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation. The role involves building expertise in GDCH, automating tasks using scripting, and collaborating with customers to understand their needs. You'll contribute to the development and maintenance of Google's infrastructure, ensuring operational efficiency and scalability.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree in CS or equivalent
5+ years in production distributed environments
TCP/IP and networking expertise
Infrastructure experience (Linux, Kubernetes, etc.)
German Level 2 security clearance (SÜ2)
Troubleshooting and resolution of infra issues
Customer and Partner deployments & training
24x7 on-call support

Good to have:

Customer Solution Engineer experience
SRE or IT production systems engineering experience
Scripting skills (Bash, Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.)
Excellent relationship-building and problem-solving skills
International travel (up to 25%)

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience working in production distributed environments.
Experience in TCP/IP and networking concepts (PXE boot, Subnets, VLANs, Jumbo Frames, LACP, NIC Teaming, Unicast/Broadcast/Multicast, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, SSH, etc.).
Experience in one of the areas of infrastructure (e.g., Linux, Kubernetes, Networking, Storage, etc.).
Due to the sensitive nature of this role, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Level 2 security clearance (SÜ2) under the German Classification Act (SÜG).

Preferred qualifications:

Experience working as a Customer Solution Engineer.
Experience in SRE or IT production systems engineering.
Understanding of physical server, storage and network devices scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.) to help with automation of routine tasks.
Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to empathize with customers and understand their needs.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Ability to travel internationally up to 25% of the time.

As a Systems Development Engineer, you will be responsible for deploying GDCH solutions at customer sites as well as internal reference deployments. You will build deep expertise in deploying and operating Google Distributed Cloud Hosted (GDCH) solutions.

Responsibilities

Perform complex day to day troubleshooting and resolution of Infrastructure issues (Network, Storage, Servers, OS, Kubernetes, etc.).
Participate in Customer, Partner, and Internal team Deployments and training which will require international travel.
Deliver train-the-trainer programs to equip Google partners with the knowledge and skills to effectively conduct customer deployments independently.
Participate in the 24x7 on-call rotation to support escalations from client deployments as well as internal reference deployments.
