Job Description

Google is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Global Networking Infrastructure team. The role involves developing and maintaining next-generation technologies for connecting billions of users. Responsibilities include writing and testing code, participating in design reviews, code review, debugging, and resolving system issues. The engineer will design and model planet-scale networks, leveraging expertise in C, C++, Java, or Python, and distributed systems. Experience with test automation, refactoring, and test-driven development is highly valued. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership, versatility, and a passion for innovation within a fast-paced environment.

Must have:

5+ years software development (C, C++, Java, Python)
3+ years infrastructure/distributed systems experience
Experience with test automation, refactoring, TDD
Code writing, testing, design reviews, debugging

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in CS or related field
Experience developing accessible technologies
Network programming experience
Software system design experience

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with software development in C, C++, Java, or Python, and with data structures/algorithms.
3 years of experience with developing infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
Experience in one or more of the following: test automation, refactoring code, test-driven development, build infrastructure, optimizing software, debugging, building tools and testing frameworks.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
Experience developing accessible technologies.
Experience in network programming or developing/designing software systems.

Responsibilities

Write and test product or system development code.
Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide on available technologies.
Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
Design and model the planet-scale networks powering Google's services and those of Google Cloud customers.
