The Bid & Project Manager (m/f/d) Product Development is responsible for bid preparation and leading complex R&D and CFRD projects, ensuring quality, budget, schedule, milestones, and customer satisfaction. This role acts as a central interface to clients, internal departments, partners, and stakeholders, ensuring project success through strategic risk and opportunity management. The manager also leads and motivates their team, fosters knowledge transfer, and deputizes for the Head of Bids & Projects when necessary.
Must have:
  • Responsible for bid preparation and leading complex R&D and CFRD projects.
  • Manage projects focusing on quality, budget, schedule, milestones, and customer satisfaction.
  • Act as a central interface for communication, coordination, and stakeholder management.
  • Analyze bid requirements, create bid structures and plans, and carry out cost estimates.
  • Responsible for project initialization and management, considering budget, schedule, quality, and risks.
  • Conduct contract negotiations within the scope of the mandate.
  • Support sales in long-term business development such as market analyses, concepts, and customer requirements.
  • Manage, coordinate, and support internal Thales stakeholders (engineering, sales, marketing, quality, project buyer, legal, export control).
Good to have:
  • Additional MBA degree.
  • Professional experience ideally in the military sector.
  • IPMA or comparable project management certification.

Your mission

You are responsible for bid preparation as well as for leading and managing complex R&D and CFRD projects with a focus on quality, budget, schedule, milestones, and customer satisfaction. You act as a central interface to customers, internal departments, partners, and stakeholders and ensure project success through strategic risk and opportunity management. In addition, you lead and motivate your team, promote knowledge transfer, and represent the Head of Bids & Projects if necessary.

This also includes the following tasks

  • Central contact person for communication, coordination and stakeholder management in bids and projects
  • Analyzing bid requirements, creating bid structures and plans and carrying out cost estimates
  • Responsibility for project initialization and management, taking into account budget, schedule, quality and risks
  • Conducting contract negotiations within the scope of the mandate and contributing to continuous process improvement
  • Supporting sales in long-term business development such as market analyses, concepts and customer requirements
  • Taking on coordination tasks in the local Bid & Project team and supporting colleagues with challenge
  • Manage, coordinate, support (functional management) the internal Thales stakeholders to provide the deliverables: engineering collaborators, heads of engineering discipline offices, sales, marketing, quality, project buyer, legal, export control

What you bring with you:

  • A successfully completed technical degree and an additional MBA-degree would be desirable
  • Several years of professional experience in public contract, proposal and project management - ideally in the military sector
  • An IPMA or comparable project management certification is desirable
  • Fluent knowledge of German and English
  • Strong technical, business and customer-oriented thinking and the ability to grasp complex system interrelationships
  • A high level of problem-solving competence and results orientation as well as the ability to work in a team in a national and international environment and to manage employees professionally
  • A high degree of reliability, personal responsibility, structural ability and independence
