This 6-month co-op opportunity at Philips in New Kensington offers undergraduate and graduate students hands-on experience as a Material Scientist. Responsibilities include performing material assessments for biocompatibility, investigating material failures, reviewing new materials and processes, and contributing to competence development in materials science. The role involves working cross-functionally with various teams and adhering to internal quality procedures.
Must have:
  • Perform material assessments and testing needed to assess biocompatibility for product development and design changes
  • Investigate material failures and coordinate corrective actions with project teams
  • Review new materials, manufacturing processes, finishing technologies, and reprocessing methods which make new designs and functions in Philips S&RC products possible and safe
  • Contribute to long term competence development in materials science at S&RC
  • Learn from and adhere to internal quality manual (Quality System Procedures, Work Instructions, Forms)
  • Work cross-functionally and collaborate with R&D, NPD, CRO’s, Regulatory Agencies internal/external scientists and other stake holders
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s/MS Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering or similar disciplines
  • Detailed experience analyzing chemical and physical properties of materials to draw scientific conclusions
  • Experience using test instrumentation and equipment in and out of a Lab environment
  • Able to collaborate with other (technical) disciplines, external partners, and companies
  • Able to successfully perform the minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements

Are you interested in a 6 month co-op opportunity? We welcome individuals who are currently pursuing an undergraduate (BS) and/or graduate (MS) degree to participate in paid opportunities at our site. Through this role you will gain meaningful, hands-on experience working for a HealthTech company.

Your role:

  • Perform material assessments and testing needed to assess biocompatibility for product development and design changes

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

Transparency Details

The hourly pay range for this position is $25.00 to $29.00, plus overtime eligible. The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
