Job Description

The Data Center Design Lead at Google is responsible for designing and implementing control systems for data centers, leveraging machine learning and optimization techniques. This role requires expertise in engineering analysis, developing operation and maintenance procedures, and ensuring designs meet requirements (cooling, structural, operational). The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Responsibilities include defining data center system-level architecture and conducting research and development to improve efficiency and sustainability.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
5+ years experience in designing and implementing control systems
Experience with Machine Learning and algorithm construction
Programming skills (C, Python, MATLAB, or Shell)
Develop operations and maintenance procedures

Good to have:

Master's or PhD in Engineering
Experience with TensorFlow, Simulink, R, or MATLAB
Experience with digital signal processing and time-series analysis
Optimization, Linear Programming, and Convex Optimization expertise
Dynamic system analysis, feedback control systems (PID Control), and optimal control experience

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience in designing and implementing controls systems and controls modeling.
Experience with Machine Learning (ML) and construction of algorithms.
Experience with programming in C, Python, MATLAB, or Shell.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field.
Experience with modeling/statistical software such as TensorFlow, Simulink, R, or MATLAB Machine Learning Toolbox.
Experience with digital signal processing and time-series analysis.
Experience with Optimization, Linear Programming, and Convex Optimization.
Experience with dynamic system analysis, feedback control systems (PID Control), and optimal control.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams (e.g., structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, mechanical, architectural).

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $139,000-$207,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

Develop operations and maintenance procedures for systems/processes.
Conduct engineering analysis and research designs and methods of data center equipment and facilities.
Ensure designs and installations meet requirements (e.g., predicted cooling, structural, operational concerns, etc.).
