As an Engineering Manager on the ChromeOS kernel team at Google, you will lead a team of experienced kernel engineers focused on enhancing the stability, maintainability, and performance of ChromeOS and upstream Linux kernels. Collaborate with other kernel teams on roadmaps and solutions. This role offers the opportunity to significantly impact ChromeOS, the broader Google organization, and the Linux community by resolving issues and creating solutions. Responsibilities include managing engineers working on all aspects of the Linux kernel for ChromeOS devices, designing and implementing innovative solutions to improve kernel quality and stability, partnering with other teams on kernel feature utilization, developing technologies to optimize and debug the kernel and system, and collaborating with Google's kernel teams and the upstream community to develop universal and upstreamable solutions.
Must have:
  • 8+ years software development experience
  • 5+ years Linux kernel development experience
  • 5+ years managing software engineers
  • Expertise in data structures and algorithms
  • Experience with software and hardware architecture
Good to have:
  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Embedded OS experience
  • Linux open-source contributions
  • Debugging and troubleshooting skills in Linux Kernel or Userspace

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience with Linux kernel development, and software and hardware architecture.
  • 5 years of experience managing other software engineers.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
  • Experience in Linux and other open-source community contributions and upstream.
  • Experience in debugging and troubleshooting skills in domains of Linux Kernel or Userspace.

  • Manage a team of engineers working on all aspects of the Linux kernel for ChromeOS devices.
  • Design and implement innovative solutions to improve quality and stability of the kernel.
  • Partner with other teams in their use of specific kernel features (e.g. tool development for said features)
  • Develop new technologies to optimize and debug kernel and the system as a whole.
  • Collaborate with and support other kernel teams at Google, and with the upstream community to develop universal and upstreamable solutions.
