Job Description

This internship at Thales Alenia Space in Toulouse focuses on testing advanced signal processing algorithms for antenna goniometry, specifically using 4th order moments. The intern will compare these techniques with classical methods (MUSIC, ESPRIT) to detect and localize interfering signals on low-orbit satellites. Responsibilities include analyzing antenna networks, various signal types, and receiver defects, developing a Monte-Carlo simulator, and validating results against the Cramer Rao bound. The role offers practical experience in GNSS signal processing within a technical and collaborative team environment.
Must Have:
  • Preparing an Engineering degree or equivalent Bac +5 in digital signal processing
  • Experience in electromagnetism and GNSS signal
  • Experience in antenna processing and signal processing
  • Experience with Matlab or Python, and a strong interest in mathematical modeling
  • Experience in microwave on antennas (directivity, polarization, impedance, coupling etc.)
  • Rigor, synthesis capability, and autonomy
Perks:
  • Technological know-how
  • Attention to employee work-life balance
  • Inclusive and benevolent environment
  • Recognized societal and environmental commitment (Thales Solidarity, CAC 40 ESG index…)
  • Opportunity to develop knowledge in navigation and signal processing
  • Opportunity to gain practical experience and develop new skills in a stimulating professional environment
  • Regulated internship with remuneration determined by study level
  • Thales, a disability-committed company, recognizes all talents. Diversity is our best asset.

Build a future of trust together

Thales is a global leader in high technologies specializing in three sectors: Defense & Security, Aeronautics & Space, and Cyber & Digital. It develops products and solutions that contribute to a safer, more environmentally friendly, and more inclusive world. The Group invests nearly 4 billion euros per year in Research & Development, particularly in key innovation areas such as AI, cybersecurity, quantum, cloud technologies, and 6G. Thales has nearly 81,000 employees in 68 countries.

Our commitments, your benefits

  • Our technological know-how
  • Our attention to employee work-life balance
  • An inclusive and benevolent environment
  • A recognized societal and environmental commitment (Thales Solidarity, CAC 40 ESG index…)

Your daily life

The Toulouse site is responsible for satellite system engineering, the design and production of payloads, as well as the development and qualification of ground segments. It integrates a research center and an industrial accelerator for start-ups and ventures.

The internship aims to test antenna processing algorithms dedicated to goniometry based on 4th order moments, for Navigation France Domain missions at Thales Alenia Space. You will compare these techniques to classical methods (2nd order moments, MUSIC, ESPRIT) to evaluate their relevance for detecting and localizing interfering signals embedded on low-orbit satellites. You will perform analyses on antenna networks, signals (CDMA, CW, pulsed, chirp…), receiver and antenna defects, detection algorithms, and multidimensional optimization methods. You will develop a Monte-Carlo test simulator integrating all studied parameters, and compare algorithm performances. You will validate the results using the Cramer Rao bound, then test implementations on real signals collected by the company. Finally, you will finalize and synthesize your results in a report.

Your profile

Is your priority to complete a 6-month internship?

Do you have the ambition to perfect your knowledge in GNSS signal?

You are preparing an Engineering degree or an equivalent Bac +5 in digital signal processing and you have experience in:

  • electromagnetism and GNSS signal
  • antenna processing and signal processing
  • Matlab or Python, as well as a strong interest in mathematical modeling
  • microwave on antennas (directivity, polarization, impedance, coupling etc.)

Are your rigor, synthesis capability, and autonomy recognized assets?

Then this position is for you!

A word from the team

Our team will welcome you into a technical and friendly environment, allowing for a wide variety of projects and studies, often related to GNSS signals.

By joining us, you will develop your knowledge of navigation and signal processing. This internship offers you an opportunity to gain practical experience and develop new skills in a stimulating professional environment in collaboration with our experts.

All our internships are regulated and subject to remuneration, the amount of which is determined according to your level of study.

Thales, a disability-committed company, recognizes all talents. Diversity is our best asset. Apply and join us!
