Bento Box is looking for an experienced Associate Director to work closely with the supervising director while executing the creators' vision for a 2D animated primetime series!
 
The ideal candidate will have experience directing a series, have strong story understanding and comedic skills, and the ability to mind-meld with the director and creators to effectively carry out their vision. They will be able to juggle notes and deadlines without breaking a sweat. They will have an excellent rapport with the whole team and be able to communicate in a positive and productive way. They will thrive in a fast-paced production and happily pivot in the face of an unexpected curveball. All of this while bringing fun-filled energy to a team of amazing and talented humans.

Responsibilities:

    • Serve as one of the main points of contact between the Executive Producers and the animation production team, seeing through the creative vision for each script
    • Work closely with the Supervising Director, Art Director, and Supervisors to relay notes and direction that reflect the vision of the creators as well as the notes from the network
    • Attend and give feedback to Episodic Director and Design Supervisors at all hand out meetings and reviews
    • With the creators' vision in mind, give storyboard notes and drawovers at milestone phases throughout the schedule
    • Note rough and final designs submitted to ensure they fit the creators' vision, as well as fitting within the legal and standards parameters
    • Participate in all animatic edit sessions to support the Executive Producers, hearing their notes and seeing the storyboard/animatic through to completion
    • Review take 1 animation footage, call retakes, do drawovers, and provide reference as needed for retake process
    • Attend all color edit sessions and give feedback while keeping the creators' notes as well as the network's notes in mind
    • Communicate openly with the Production team to keep them aware of any hurdles that come up, especially those that might impact deadlines

Qualifications:

    • 3+ years of experience directing in episodic series television, including directing retakes in post, preferably in primetime comedy 
    • Knowledge of 2D animation and a thorough understanding of a 2D production pipeline from development to post production
    • Knowledge of Storyboard Pro and Photoshop a must
    • Toon Boom Harmony knowledge is a plus
    • Comfortable working digitally on a Cintiq
    • Outstanding people skills; ability to guide a unique group of creative staff
    • Excellent organizational and project management skills
    • Must be able to adapt to changes easily within a highly dynamic environment
    • Strong attention to detail is critical
    • Previous supervisory and leadership experience, including demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team
    • Must be an 839 union member or willing to join
The salary for this position is $2,852.97 per week.
