BESIX Group is seeking a Project Director for a new project in Afungi, Mozambique, involving the construction of a large jetty and a marine offloading facility. The role requires managing construction execution, ensuring safety, quality, value, timeliness, and profitability. Responsibilities include supervising and coordinating projects, negotiating with third parties, managing contracts and claims (FIDIC), overseeing budgets and resources, preparing progress reports, and fostering business development. The position involves working as an expat in a base camp in northern Mozambique with a 6/3 rotation scheme.
Must have:
  • Academic degree in Engineering (construction or architecture)
  • 15+ years of experience in major construction
  • Managed large complex projects (> 150 million €)
  • Experience in civil or marine works
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent people and team management skills
  • Advanced contract management understanding
  • Deep knowledge of technical complex domains
  • Very good knowledge of site organization
  • Ability to assess issues rapidly and develop solutions
  • Excellent communication skills (internal/external)
  • Ability to negotiate at high level
Good to have:
  • Experience with jetties and/or quay walls
  • Knowledge of FIDIC contract management

Job Description

To reinforce our teams BESIX is searching for a Project Director for our new project in Afungi, Mozambique. The project concerns the construction of a large jetty and a marine offloading facility.

The purpose of this position is to perform the essential construction management job duties and functions as listed below with the overall objective of establishing a construction execution framework on the project(s) and ensuring the safety, quality, value, timeliness, and BESIX profitability of the assigned project(s). The Project Director works also closely with General Management and Business Development to target and pre-position for opportunities in a region or country.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • You will supervise, coordinate towards successful completion of your project in accordance with client requirements, organizational policies/procedures, contract, time and cost specifications;
  • You will coordinate (with Procurement Team) all third parties, negotiate with contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors throughout all stages in the development of the project life cycle, participate and handle tenders and contracts;
  • Participates in preparation and negotiation of contracts and ensures delivery and adherence to contractual requirements and that all aspects of contracts are accomplished;
  • You validate contractual options, whether technical, financial or time-related;
  • You take care of the contractual and financial follow-up and budget control;
  • You engage yourself in social contacts and public relations to the benefit of the Company;
  • You will implement project budgets and resources, enforce project standards, technical reviews, manage team allocation, mobilize qualified personnel and specified tasks and prepare monthly progress reports;
  • You actively participate in the business community and builds relationships within the industry to generate and enhance business opportunities;
  • You proactively manage the training and professional development of project employees;

You are willing to work as an expat in a base camp in the north of Mozambique with a 6/3 rotation scheme.

Qualifications

  • You have an academic degree in Engineering (construction or architecture);
  • You have proven a track record with a least 15 years of relevant working experience within a major construction company, having managed large complex construction projects (> 150 million €) in civil or marine works;
  • Experience with jetties and/or quay walls is an asset;
  • You possess in-depth practical and theoretical knowledge to deal with situations in a background of conceptual understanding;
  • You have gained excellent experience in claim handling and contract management (FIDIC);
  • You are fluent in English, any other language is an asset; 
  • You possess in-depth practical and theoretical knowledge to deal with situations in a background of conceptual understanding;
  • You are an experienced people and team manager.  You seek consensus and are a good listener;
  • You have an advanced understanding of contract management;
  • You have a deep knowledge of technical complex domains and have a very good knowledge of site organization;
  • You have the ability to assess issues rapidly, develop alternative solutions, implement pragmatic strategies;
  • You are an excellent communicator both to internal and external parties;
  • You are able to negotiate at high level and in complex environments;

You are willing to work as an expat in a base camp in the north of Mozambique with a 6/3 rotation scheme.
