Job Summary
Pentair seeks a Senior Project Manager in Apex, NC, to lead technically complex New Product Development and engineering projects. This role requires a goal-oriented mindset to plan, direct, and coordinate project activities, ensuring goals are met within scope, schedule, and budget. The manager will foster a positive team environment, champion cross-functional communication with product management, marketing, operations, finance, supply chain, sales, quality, and customer service, and drive the delivery of innovative new products. A passion for results and continuous improvement is essential for realizing strategic initiatives.
Must Have
- Drive medium to large scale, technically complex, New Product Development and/or engineering product projects.
- Lead System Level Project oversight with independence and autonomy.
- Lead project teams through the company’s Stage-Gate Product Development process from concept to postproduction launch.
- Quantitatively track project performance to schedule, spend, and scope.
- Author and/or present weekly/bi-weekly project progress reports to Senior Leadership.
- Drive project meetings with a focus on scope control, schedule updates, budget tracking, and risk management.
- Manage projects with tight control of critical path activities and hold teams accountable for deliverables.
- Identify project related issues and risks, document all risks, and escalate to sponsors and Functional Management.
- Coordinate project activities with cross-functional team members to ensure project goals and requirements are met.
- Possess a B.S. degree in Engineering or other technical discipline.
- Have 10+ years leading cross-functional project teams and programs in a matrix organization.
- Have 5+ years of engineering design of consumer product development environment and related manufacturing experience in a med-high volume production environment.
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience product development process (stage-gate, predictive, agile and hybrid methods).
- Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Good to Have
- MBA or advanced technical degree.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- 5+ years of managing project teams developing connected consumer product products that include hardware and with embedded firmware, software, and App.
- Experience working with, developing, or managing the development of consumer mobile Apps (iOS/Android) as related to hardware deployment.

You will:
- Responsible for driving with urgency, medium to large scale, technically complex, New Product Development and/or engineering product projects (new to world and incremental improvements)
- Leads System Level Project oversight with a strong sense of independence and autonomy but guided by business goals and cooperative collaboration with senior subject matter experts.
- Leads project teams through the company’s Stage-Gate Product Development process from concept (ideation) to postproduction launch with strong sense of urgency. This may include the design and development of production lines and processes including post-launch activities intended to support a smooth transition into production.
- Quantitatively tracks project performance to schedule, spend, and scope using dashboards and highlights risks/issues with owners and mitigations plans.
- Authors and/or presents weekly/bi-weekly project progress reports to Senior Leadership
- Exemplifies a dedication to integrity, quality, and delivery of project milestones with a passion for results that exceed expectations and is contagious throughout the project team.
- Adept at multi-tasking to champion new product development, and in parallel, sponsorship of production line development, including the design of fixtures and End-of Line test equipment through IQ, OQ, PQ approvals (Hardware, Software, and Firmware)
- Drive project meetings with a focus on scope control, schedule updates, budget tracking, and risk management throughout the life of the project, and holding individual and teams accountable for deliverables.
- Diligently record lessons learned throughout the entire project duration and consolidate the lessons with a goal of providing continuous improvement recommendations to the organization.
- Project Scope may include design and development of hardware (including injection molded tooling and parts), PCBA electronics, connected products hardware, Software Development (SW), and/or Web & Mobile Applications (iOS/Android).
- Project activities may include facilitation of development Blitz or brainstorming Kaizen events, chair project meetings, update task, track budget (spend), and resource progress on weekly schedule updates, and logs issues, risks, Lessons learned, and documents contingency plans for all projects.
- Collaborates with engineering, product management, operations, supply chain, finance and all other stakeholders to identify and prioritize critical project milestones and deliverables.
- Manages the project with tight control of critical path activities and holds the teams accountable to on-time project deliverables and milestones.
- Leads weekly cross-functional project meetings and maintains minutes/notes/action items.
- Continuously gathers feedback from all project team members to track progress and mitigate risk.
- Identifies project related issues and risks, documents all risks in the risk database, and escalates to sponsor’s and Functional Management early to facilitate mitigation before they affect critical path.
- Maintains awareness of technical progress and risks for assigned projects, confers with technical personnel to resolve issues, and drives corrective actions.
- Confers with project personnel to resolve problems, the Sr. Engineering Project Manager is expected to have sufficient knowledge and awareness to recognize when technical problems may exist and to proactively identify and initiate corrective actions to avoid scope change and/or schedule slip.
- Coordinates project activities with cross-functional team members to ensure project goals and requirements are met on schedule and within budget.
- Prepares project status reports and facilitates both technical and non-technical meetings, design reviews in order to keep stakeholders up-to-date and able to support risk/issue mitigation requests.
- Develops and maintains technical and project documentation, including project/process deliverables.
- Documents all Risks, Issues, and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
Key Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Engineering, or other technical discipline, from an accredited institution (MBA or advanced technical degree is a plus).
- Project Management education: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desirable.
- 10+ years leading cross-functional project teams and programs aligned with strategic objectives in a matrix organization.
- 5+ years of engineering design of consumer product development environment and related manufacturing experience in a med-high volume production environment
- 5+ years of managing project teams developing connected consumer product products that include hardware and with embedded firmware, software, and App is desirable.
- Experience training and mentoring new hires in project management best practices.
- Knowledge and experience working with third party vendors in the development of a well-defined product specification, and subsequent development and qualification of a new product.
- Experience working with, developing, or managing the development of consumer mobile Apps (iOS/Android) as related to hardware deployment is highly desirable.
- Highly detail oriented, organized, and organizationally agile individual preferred with innate/natural relationship building communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience product development process (stage-gate, predictive, agile and hybrid methods)
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Compensation:
For this full-time position working at this location, the anticipated annualized base pay range will be from $95500 - $177300 / year. It is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the pay range. The company considers various factors in determining actual compensation for this position at the expected location. Actual compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, work location, and other relevant business or organizational needs. This position may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as, annual incentive bonus and/or long-term incentives.
