Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer in Applied Machine Learning at Google, you'll shape the future of GenAI, integrating it into Google's consumer products. You'll build platforms incorporating fine-tuning, multi-agent systems, and model optimization. Responsibilities include triaging product issues, developing and maintaining C++ and Python code, designing GenAI features, collaborating with stakeholders on emerging technologies, and building a team for efficient GenAI deployment across Google. You'll work on projects critical to Google's needs with opportunities for team and project switching.

Must have:

5+ years software development (C++, Python, Java)
3+ years ML algorithms & tools experience
2+ years building production ML systems
Data structures/algorithms expertise
Build GenAI platform for Google products

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in CS or related field
Experience with JAX, PyTorch, or TensorFlow
Experience launching applied ML/NLP projects

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with software development in C++, Python or Java programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
3 years of experience with machine learning algorithms and tools, and 2 years of experience building production quality Machine Learning (ML) systems.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
Experience with modern Machine Learning (ML) frameworks (e.g., JAX, Pytorch or TensorFlow).
Experience with launching applied Machine Learning or Natural Language Processing projects.

As a Software Engineer, you will shape the future of applied Machine Learning (ML) at Google and push the boundaries of what's possible with Generative Artificial Intelligence technologies, leaving a lasting impact on the field. You will be building the platform to integrate GenAI-based technologies into Google's suite of consumer-facing products. Your mission is to empower developers and researchers with GenAI enablement tools, driving innovation and unlocking the potential of ML across a diverse range of applications, and you will play a pivotal role in building a team to ensure the deployment of genAI across Google is as easy, economical, and as fast as possible.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
Build the platform that incorporates fine-tuning, multi-agent systems, prompt engineering, model optimization, etc. into the Google product development lifecycle.
Develop and maintain our products, written in C++ and Python, conforms with Google-wide coding and testing standards.
Design and implement customer requested GenAI features through multiple stages such as requirements gathering, proposing design and building agreement among the key stakeholders, implementing and rolling out to production.
Collaborate with stakeholders to identify emerging technology related to GenAI and develop a plan for translating these into practical solutions for Google products.
