As a Software Engineer in the Azure Storage Infrastructure team, you'll design and develop solutions to onboard new hardware accelerators, processors, transports, and cluster-level performance improvements. This role involves the entire software development lifecycle, including operation, scaling, training, and support. You will collaborate with various teams across Research, Storage, Compute, etc., to achieve industry-leading transaction rates and network throughput. Responsibilities include working with stakeholders to determine user requirements, developing design documents, creating and implementing code, breaking down work items into tasks, and acting as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) for system monitoring and problem resolution.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in CS or related field
  • Experience with Storage or Networking development
  • Experience with Server, Cloud, or Data Center environments
  • C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python coding experience
Good to have:
  • Master's degree in CS
  • Kernel development experience
  • Experience with SSD/HDD device management

The Azure Storage Infrastructure team is hiring for agile and diverse engineering teams in Block devices, filesystems, Hardware offloads, Transports performance, and systems integration.

As a Software Engineer in the Storage Infrastructure team, you will design and develop solutions to onboard new hardware accelerators, processors, transports, and cluster level performance improvements to enable industry leading transactions rates and network throughput. You will collaborate with organizations across Research, Storage, Compute, and more. Your work will encompass the entire software development lifecycle, including operation, scaling, training, and support.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with Storage or Networking development.
  • Experience with Server, Cloud, or Data Center enviroments.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional / Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Rust OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Kernel development, Storage, Networking, and embedded operating systems.
  • Experience with solid state drive (SSD) or hard disk drive (HDD) device management.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $81,900 - $160,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $105,600 - $174,600 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.
  • Supports identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product feature with oversight.
  • With guidance, learns to create and implement code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable.
  • Assists and learns about breaking down work items into tasks and provides estimation.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook.
  • Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
