Our Explosive Ordnance Systems team enables the Australian Defence Force through storage, distribution, maintenance and disposal of these systems, all across Australia. As a turnkey solution, we offer the opportunity to gain a holistic understanding of our business operations, creating huge opportunities for growth. We are seeking a detail-oriented Technical Officer – Tooling to join our Mulwala team. As our Technical Officer - Tooling you will ensure that production Autonomous Production Repair Unit (APRU) teams have the required tooling, spare parts and consumables needed to meet their production targets.
Must Have:
  • Overall coordination of tooling requirements for the APRU teams
  • Ensure tooling is fit for purpose and meets operational requirements
  • Oversee tooling preparation and readiness for scheduled production runs
  • Work with Technical Officers and Engineering to ensure drawing are accurate and effective
  • Check incoming tooling (new and refurbished) against purchase order and drawing requirements
  • Inspect quality of tooling received against drawings
  • Maintain tooling registers, service schedules and lifecycle records
  • Provide technical advice and support to production and engineering teams
  • Support audits, inspections and investigations related to tooling compliance
  • Validate tooling performance during setup and production start-up
  • Identify opportunities for improvement including technology advancements in heat treatments and finishes including to correct any issues associated with tooling errors
  • Conduct stocktakes of tooling against BPCS to confirm correct inventory as required
  • Trade Qualification in Tool Making, Fitting & Turning, Mechanical Engineering or related field OR AQF3/AQF4 Qualification in an Engineering or Technical Stream
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with advanced knowledge of tooling systems
  • Ability to analyse tooling performance data and identify root cause of issues
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Advanced MS office and computer skills
  • Skilled in technical documentation, compliance reporting and record keeping
  • Australian citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance

ABOUT THE ROLE

YOUR EXPERIENCE

On day one in this role, we'll expect you to bring the following skills, experience and behaviours:

  • Trade Qualification in Tool Making, Fitting & Turning, Mechanical Engineering or related field would be an advantage or:
  • AQF3/AQF4 Qualification in an Engineering or Technical Stream
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with advanced knowledge of tooling systems
  • Ability to analyse tooling performance data and identify root cause of issues
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Advanced MS office and computer skills
  • Skilled in technical documentation, compliance reporting and record keeping

GOOD TO KNOW

Prior to being offered employment, you will need to complete pre-employment police and (role dependent) medical checks.

A Defence security clearance is required for this role; applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an appropriate clearance.

In some cases, individuals who hold a current clearance from a foreign government may be eligible to have this clearance recognised by the Australian Government and be eligible for this role.
